Just after watching three hours of porn and wonder if anyone has any information on replacing the rear brake lines on a 2004 Facelift TD4 5 door? Had quick look when I replaced the handbrake cables and mine look a bit 'ropey' so I am looking to replace then before the next MOT. Are these lines easy to replace and do they 'disappear' over the fuel tank, requiring it's removal. Can do that if necessary but would rather give that a miss....Sorry my Haynes manual is in the UK and am just recovering from flu etc so looking for sympathy and a straight answer without the usual 'catty' comments about doing a search etc......Have found some useful advice on pipe and union sizes, just need someone who has done this to give me a 'steer'.. TIA.

u can do it in one piece , from the engine bay , all the way to the back

no need to remove the fuel tank , i used nickel pipe

I did mine for the MOT in September. It's a straightforward replacement job. The modulator end uses standard single flairs. The flexy ends use reverse flairs. You'll also need to reuse one of the modulator unions as it's not a standard 10mm fitting. I'd also replace the flexy pipes which means the short link pipes into the wheels cylinders will also need changing. You'll find some of the pipe clips will break, even if you're super careful. The nearside pipe runs behind the fuel tank, so removed of the tank isn't needed.

Will you be buying a brake line kit or making them yourself?

I'll be changing my front pipes for the MOT in September, as there'r more rusty than I'd like. I'll be doing the flexys at the same time.

Hi Nodge, I plan on making my own and changing out any other pipework that needs replacing. Not looked at the front discs and pads as of yet so they are on the 'look see' and possibly 'to do' list. They will definitely get the 'once over' and I will be doing a complete flush of the brake fluid, obviously. Going to be doing a bit of 'titivation' underneath the rear also and my son (he doesn't know it yet) will be rubbing down and painting all the 'rusty looking' suspension components (at least those which don't need replaced) and obviously helping me out on 'tuther stuff' too. First things first will be two refurbished injectors before any of the brake stuff happens and possibly the fuel pressure sensor harness 'upgrade' as that had a bit of 'the green stuff' at the connector last time I had a 'fiddle' with it. Lots of stuff to be getting on with...think of a time period and multiply it by three!!!
