i have a disco 2 td5 c/l is not working and there is no red light in the dash. Would I be right in thinking that it as been turned off some ware.the discovery runs and unlocks from drivers door no problem but no red led or central locking...

Yep sounds like someone has been in there and turned certain things off.

If you have access to a nanocom you can check to see what is on / off.

Cheers

no access to one..only just bought the disco I have just opened up my key and there's no chip inside could this be why its turned off you think..

The D2 fobs dont have chips, presumably the alarm/immobiliser is disabled in the BCU that's one thing the C/L should work on fob regardless of that, might be the roof receiver if the C/L is working from driver's door or dash switch... can you see the LED on the fob when you push a button?

If you read the attachment it explains about the chip.

a fob from a R75 does not have the small "chip", but it will still work for approx 30 seconds after the door is opened.

I would suspect your RF receiver or wiring may be fubarred and ti was easier for the owner to switch off the alarm and immobiliser from the system.

If you want and you can wait.

Failing any disasters before hand, I hope to be there, I can bring my nanocom, and a spare key from my D2, we could test it then. But if it is the RF receiver I will not have one of them with me, and it could also be that the wiring is failing between the receiver and the BCU.

If this is of interest then let me know.

Cheers

thank you I will get hold of an RF receiver and get back to asap once again thanks for the help and pointers..

It could be the car was never programmed to accept the key. Unfortunately, it is a case of spend the money on a receiver to maybe find the old receiver is good and that it is a wiring issue. The RF receiver is knackered. It was a bad earth or that the car is not programmed to the the key fob.

The other option is if you had someone who would lend you their rf receiver. Although tbh they are not that expensive anyway.

Do you have a rear sunroof?

Cheers

You'll not know if it's a wiring issue as long as you dont put a known good receiver and that will fail to work so a good receiver is needed anyway unless everything works but it's a key programming issue

the receiver is plug and play so if you replace it with a good/new one it might work if the key is programmed
