The Best one I saw in a disco was in the brown tray behind the sun visor. only works with small skinny cb's tho,

Ill find the link to the pics:

CB Radios - Vehicle - - : Midland Alan 121

Bottom left hand side,

Don't want to get into trouble for posting spam so Sorry in advance. Jai

That was where mine was, but you dont need to cut the plastic, just loosen the screws off slide it in and tighten up screws. if you cant hear it you may need to cut a small hole to allow the speaker to be heard.

It looks really neat IMO all the wires can be neatly tucked out of harms way and out of theiving Bastids view when the visor is up. Jai

Just need to find the motorised mount that you can put the aerial up or down with a flick of a switch..........lazy or what

ooh thats nice the one there stook in the map holder. will be droppn some hints for my b.day so! looks an awkard spot to cut away at - angle grinder? :p

Fellows,
Attached are pictures of how I mounted my UHF Radio. It is a GME Electrophone that has the detachable control face. The pictures better describe where I mounted the control face and microphone. What is not shown is the remaining radio chassis, which I mounted inside the fuse panel door. The aerial is mounted on the left hand side of the Roo Bar. Hope this may help.
Regards
John Wilson

I used strong self adhesive velcro to install my radio ,, works a treat and stayed rock solid green laning all day .... Just follow the pics , its that simple , and with a 7inch mag mount and a large springer ariel , It didnt even need swr ing lol i run the cable neatly to the front . and use ciggie plugs with adaptor to power everthing
It had a perfect SWR rating out of the bag after tested .. I used and Alan Midland 78 Plus ...

Also it all unplugs when not needed and the disco goes back to normal... lol so not seen and wont be stolen .

This thread carrying on has set me thinking (painful!!). As I said earlier I use an aerial bracket on my roof bars but I noticed my Disco has a seal grommet in a hole in the roof near the back (probably for a GPS aerial). Anyone tried using this to mount a CB twig?
Strikes me if the hole is already there, with a DV27 type mount and a neat run of the co-ax under the headlining would make a really neat install without actually drilling any holes.

I had a cb in my car in the early 80s it was a midland, (AM frequency) I thought it had died off since the fm rigs came in apart from the lorry drivers , is it still a popular thing?

Not really though it seems to be increasing. Main problem now is that it seems to be full of tossers swearing or playing ****e music all the time. But it's very useful when out laning,

i've found this too. thought about having mine permanently installed, but just had it on the dash for a while to see how much use it was. hardly anyone about on cb now, so didn't bother with install. velcro on the dash looks like the way to go, with a mag mount.

it's a shame, 'cos I do a lot of mileage, and it would be handy to be able to use for traffic information if nothing else. only ever worked out once, when I was stuck on the M4. I was going london bound and the other guy was going wales bound. He had passed what was holding me up, and I had passed what was holding him up. quick chat, and I was off at the next junction and away, cos it went on for miles.

Optimus, you could go for a ham radio licence. There's more activity on the ham bands and you can use the repeater network to extend your range when on the move....
that and half the people on here seem to have licences lately. There'll have to be a ham radio section on here at this rate! :D
