See if you can get hold of a power meter and check that you are actually kicking out wattage! If the needle isnt moving (on 2 SWR meters) it could be that you are only kicking out a couple of watts. That would also explain the poor Tx to the trucker. Is there a Hi / Lo switch on the front of the CB? If so that is usually the output power, nominally Hi = 10W and Lo = 2W

Errm NO if it's a UK legal CB then it's maximum high power is 4Watts

Eeeeeeee wen ahhh werrrrr a lad wey wud gathrrrr rarnd t'dipole n cukk suppa...........

4Watts? Dear Lord is that all nowadays? Ok maybe Hi=4W and Lo = 0.25W!!!

I still think output power is a possibility tho'

It int a lot is it??? probably why quite a few peeps mod them to shove out more power or fit linear amps to them.  As I said in my earlier post I think the TX is goosed.

met up with tom today. its definately a problem with his output. he could pick me up fine but i could not pick him up unless he was right next too me. think he is going to buy a new cb unit to solve the problem. good meeting you today tom and good luck with the trip

CB fitted today, worked straight the way and got a great SWR readying. Got a 10 mile distance! A bit frustraiting about the other but has given me a big lesson in never to get a second hand CB!

Cheers!
