The necessity of a cat has been the subject of quite a bit of discussion on several threads on here. I have no cat on a 2006 model TD5 and no one has told me I need one to pass the MOT - it's not been a problem the past couple of times. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's specifically been told by their MOT garage they had to fit one in order to pass. I still have my old front pipe with cat so could put it back on if need be, I've just not been asked to. Yes, better running without the EGR, and a lot less soot getting recirculated down the inlet manifold.
Quick Question I have a 90 Td5 54 plate and am looking into straight piping it, is it legal to remove the cat?
That's a shame, thank you for the info thoughNo. And I am fairly sure it will fail MOT under the new rules.
It will be fineThat's a shame, thank you for the info though
It will be fine
Mine didn't. What age is yours?Mine passes with no cat!
Lucky. They didn't do their job properly.2009 fender 2.4. They never even mentioned it!
What, the EGR?Aye but I may have the bigger issue this year - October ! We will see
Good luck with the head gasket, do you know why it developed an issue? That has also been removed prior to mot and no mention either. The fender is undergoing a head gasket rep so hope no issues when I re assemble
I thing the gasket may have failed due to no four injectornover fueling / the injectors have all been replaced now and I had them all programmed so hopefully is should be ok. At the same time I am replacing the timing chain as it's done 120k, the water pump, the oil cooler - asthis as has the original on and on a transit ( same engine ) they fail! Along with a set of valves and valve seats, silicone hose kit and expansion tank. I will be glad to get it completedGood luck with the head gasket, do you know why it developed an issue?
Mine is also without EGR, so it'll be interesting what the MOT guy says when mine's due.
