Was just wondering if its ok to take a 2.5NA engine in the back of my 110. Is the floorboard safe to handle the 300 odd kgs?

I had a 300tdi and a 2.5 n/a from a transit in the back of my previous 110 both at the same time with no ill effects.

I think your concern should lie with whether the motor would be able to take the rigours of transportation in this way

;)Too true, you could dent the sump or w.h.y.Like ratty i have moved two engines no probs at all,you could put a sheet of plywood down first so as not to scratch the floor

As already mentioned cut a sheet of 18mm plywood to lay on the floor. It spreads any point loads so as you dont put dents in the aluminium floor and you can slide the engine in and out without worrying about any damage. Drain as much oil as you can before loading then strap the engine down good and tight. Take some off cuts of 4x2 to use as packers and try to keep it upright. Weight loading is no problem. I had a pallet of bricks in the back of my 90. Loaded them in one at a time. Dont know what they weighed but the springs were a tad compressed.

Thanks guys, will do the plywood and then put the engine in. Need to deliver it to a friend 350 km away.

yer no problem , iv done the same with me 90 , nfact it drives a lot better with some weight in the back

Or try sitting the sump in an old tyre, thats how i moved my 200tdi. then I tied across top to ensure it didnt fall over

I've carried engines in the back of my 88 - I wasn't worried about the floor 'cos I chocked up the engines where I could with timber blocks to spread the load and stop them moving about.

Stig left us tuther week with an engine 2 or 3 gear boxes, couple of tranfer boxes and all sorts of props/drive shafts etc. & he was off to Portuloo
