Having read loads of useful stuff in here regarding zenith carbs i decided to buy new old stock lower body and refurb the rest rather than buying complete chineeseum copy, result is better idle and cleaner pickup.

Well done. Where did you get the new old stock part? Old landies seems to be condemned to have only zenith or Webber carbs, neither were brilliant compared to more modern carbs. When you think of the many different carbs that have been used in the past 40 years, there must be a good one somewhere that would be ideal for an old landrover. In the 70's and early 80's I found SU carbs to be good, not particularly great for performance but were reliable and always worked as they should.

I do like SU carbs but there it isn't a cheap conversion and they can miss-behave on really rough terrain, hence the Stromberg's on V8 in place of su used in road cars I got the body/throttle housing from J. Richards surplus it wasn't cheap but came complete with throttle shaft, butterfly and levers etc and his overhaul kit was decent quality too.
