I don't know if your bothered, but to count for insurance purposes they have to be pro installed with a certificate. I don't know if you can get a discount for having an alarm these days. Last one I had installed was by a pro into my Impreza. It was a Toad and cost about £220.

dont need a cert just something that does the job

I'll be interested to hear what you go with - I was thinking along the same lines today, also not for insurance, just to help put the scrotes off a bit. I'm getting organised to do quite a few electrical jobs.

used to have a sparkright on my old van, very effective just far to sensitive dont want to pay stupid money or put one on thats cheap and tat,i have looked at toad seems good kit just very dear, that said our vehicles are not cheap mines nearly 19,cost me 3500 and has around 4k of kit/stock on it so 7.5k going west is a massive blow to the pocket

another vote for the toad ai606, had one on my s2000 worked really well and simple enough for a diy fit

Agreed. They're about £100 off eBay new and fitting instructions are easily found. Security level depends mostly on the quality / ingenuity of installation and how well burried it is. The three I've fitted have been 100% reliable and importantly have decent fobs which are fairly batter proof.
