I have an Autel MD808 Pro reader and I can connect to just about everything on my 2005 Freelander TD4 from the ABS to the module in the rear door, what it refuses to connect to is the engine ECU.

If I connect in generic OBD mode it will go in and give me limited live data but it won't read the codes that are there. If I try to connect as a Freelander 1, up to 2007 and TD4 engine then it simply won't connect at all. I have updated the Autel but it won't play nice. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

It is definitely a Freelander 1 although I have tried selecting Freelander 2 out of desperation.

I have tried all the ECU options listed and none of them work so perhaps I have an odd ball version that Autel doesn't support.

Anyone know where the ECU identity can be found so I can check? From memory there were about 5 options under engine management TD4, mems3 and some others. My injectors are Bosch if there are more than one injection system used on these.

Which engine module are you trying to get coms with? There aren't many on a FL1 and non in the rear door!
 
Have you used battery support whilst trying to read. Most Land Rover's need over 12.75v to communicate correctly.

TD4 ECU are Bosch DDE4.0.

I meant rear door as in the tailgate, sorry if I explained badly. I am trying to communicate with the engine ECU to get live data and error codes.

It starts well so I assume the battery is OK but you never know, I will try that later and see if it helps.

We have sorted the issue now it was over boosting because of a duff boost control solenoid but it would be nice to be able to read the ECU in future.

The Autel gives me 6 options under engine, 3 of them are Petrol and then there is 'TD4 Diesel', 'Bosch Diesel Engine(EDC)' and 'MEM3' I am guessing it should be the first but I have tried the others.
 
Make sure the contacts on the OBD2 port aren't spread too wide. That has been a issue for some in the past. Also check the CAN wires are connections to the EDC are firm.
 
Just a quick update.

The Autel claims it reads it but it simply doesn't, I Purchased a i930 and reads it just fine. A pain to have to buy a separate reader but it is what it is and these Freelanders seem a harder than most vehicles to get codes out of.
