Hi Guys,

My Rangie is a 2003 Vogue, which has Sat Nav etc., and I wondered if I could pair my phone to it. The Manual that came with it is for a touch screen system, but mine is not a touch screen.

When you turn on the system, it asks for a card, but I cant bring up a screen for pairing.

I realise that back in 2003 there wasnt the choice of phones there is now, and as mine is a Blackberry, I dont have much hope of doing this without a docking cradle or upgrade of some sort, but I thought someone here would surely know the answer.

No Matt, no phone there.

However, I am positive that I saw on screen a dialogue for pairing, but this was before I bought it, and now I cant seem to locate that screen again.

That kit, I highlighted to convert is out of the question at $799 or whatever, I wont pay that much..Im daft, but not that daft..

Another question Matt, I have heard that you can update the Sat Nav, do you know anything about that?

Hi mate, yer I know loads about it, i have done it myself and have helped loads of other members to do the upgrade, if your screen is has the old gray user interface you currently have the old BMW MK3 sat nav unit, this can be upgraded to the later BMW MK4 unit which is much faster, has a much nicer user interface and allows you to use the latest 2010 BMW navigation maps (which i can provide for free if you need them) the process of doing the upgrade is really easy, all you need to get is the BMW MK4 sat nav unit, i got mine from ebay for £330, on ebay the majority of them are listed as for BMW's but with a simple firmware update, they can be converted to the Range Rover version (i can provide the latest firmware too if you need it) its a simple plug and play swap to change to actual unit that lives in the entertainment compartment which is on the left hand side in the rear boot area. You can tell which version of the sat nav unit you have by just looking at it, the sat nav unit is the unit with the cd slot on the front of the unit, the MK4 unit has a DVD label on the front and the MK3 doesn't, if you check out the blog archive on my website www.myrangerover.co.uk there is a detailed instructions on how to do the upgrade.

Hope this helps

Matt:D

thanks Matt......yes I have been to visit your site, which is most useful, and I noted your response on another post.

This is something Im definitely going to do, and I really appreciate your help and advice over it.

With my last Rangie, I learnt all about RF cables, so much so I had the dealership amazed, when I was telling him how to get around various problems ...lol, so I am sure I can learn how to change this system around.

Thanks again Matt.. I'm sure I'm going to be a real pest, but I do appreciate all your help.

Sorry for jumping in guys, I've got a 2003 TD6 vogue and got a feeling it has the latter Mk4 DVDunit in the rear left boot compartment. It has tv screens fitted in the rear headrests (havent tried these out yet as got to replace batteries in the remote), i cant check it for the 'DVD' label on it til im home (am away on business at the moment) What are the chances mines already got the Mk4 unit?

Sorry but unless the previous owner changed the unit then i wouldn't have thought you would have had the MK4 unit as no range rovers were ever fitted with this unit at the factory. It was only ever fitted to BMW's. BMW had already sold Land Rover to Ford before the current Range Rover came out, so no upgrades to the BMW design were done until the 2005/2006 Ford upgrade, so the BMW MK3 unit was fitted from 2003 to the 05/06 upgrade. After this the entertainment system was completely changed to the touch screen system, which is based on a fibre optic network. Where as the non touch screen uses the BMW IBUS network.

You should be able to tell if you have the MK4 unit just by looking a the screen in the front, if the user interface is all grey/very basic looking then that will be the MK3 where as if the user interface is in colour then that will more than likely be the MK4 unit.
