Hello all,

New to Land Rovers as I am (along with mildly cretinous) I really need some help in trying to value a project Defender I would like to buy.

It is now finished, it is MOT'd, it is a Defender Pickup on the logbook - I just have no idea of value!

The whole thing is standard chassis Land rover Discovery permanent 4 wheel drive, 3.5l EFi V8 engine,

The bodywork is from a kit form that cost 3.5K alone, the front end including the wings cantilevers away to reveal the engine bay.

Vehicle wrapped in blue with interior re-covered in black

Upgraded shocks and suspension,

Bushes and bearings all new

33x12 wheels and tyres

4 point harnesses and seats

Remote battery in rear toolbox

Glass roof, toughened Perspex sliding windows

It needs finishing touches, things like carpeting and possibly changing the sliding windows, nothing too major apparently just a bit of time and TLC and would be fully ready.

Pics attached.

Any advice towards a value or comments about the ups and downs of this vehicle would be great!

What year is it?
The whole thing is standard chassis Land rover Discovery permanent 4 wheel drive, 3.5l EFi V8 engine,
Is it a Fender or a Disco, and what condition is the chassis in?
The bodywork is from a kit form that cost 3.5K alone, the front end including the wings cantilevers away to reveal the engine bay.
The cost of the kit doesn't matter, and so don't be taken in by their pricing!
Vehicle wrapped in blue with interior re-covered in black
Why?
Upgraded shocks and suspension,
Why?
Bushes and bearings all new

Why?
33x12 wheels and tyres
What size is that?
4 point harnesses and seats

Personally, I wouldn't touch it, as it will probably be over-priced and not a lot of use as it appears to have an open back to the cab!

It appears to be a poseur-mobile

Always be wary of people who sell on projects just as they are finished. It smacks of ran out of money/arsedness and bodged the last bits to get rid. Have you ever run a V8 ? my 110 did 15/16 mpg on average short journey work and up to 22 on longer runs. Lovely smooth power though.

I like it :D

You wrapped it in what.?

Pics of the engine would be good

Price.. dunno 5k? A galved chassis would have been nice.

Seadog and Divie, thanks for the valuable insights, I really do appreciate your experience.

I believe the thing was built for pure off-road pleasure, hence the various upgrades.

The reg is currently a J Plate, although I am sure the EFi V8 is not from 1992!

The cab would need finishing for sure, open back is no good.

I'm not sure what 33 x 12 is equivalent to, however my 31/10.50/15 are equivalent to 285/80/15 using an online calculator.

The chassis is a disco and the body kit is a Custom Defender widebody (as far as I am aware). I understand to Land Rover purists this thing must be like the Hunchback of Notre Damn!

Ultimately driving a V8 would hurt the pocket.

One thing you said is a real wake up - why is someone selling a just finished project?! Without even using it for a while? Something doesn't seem right.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it massively!

Trax - after the bodykit was applied it was blue vinyl wrapped rather than sprayed. Wrapping is cheaper and it is easier to replace a section in the event of off-road damage :)

If you're new to Land Rovers get something that is pretty much bog standard, mod it to your requirements (you'll also learn a lot in the process). This one in particular is all about how it looks, is it exactly as you would build it? A good read on this forum will give you a good insight as to what works and what doesn't work, whatever path you take, good luck ;)

Basically then, it's a 1991 Bitza with a bit of bling!

An off-road pleasure-mobile? Yeah right!!

From the pics the roll cage appears to form part of the windscreen surround, and I doubt if it would withstand any gentle bumps without breaking the glass, and the angle of the screen is too flat!

I certainly wouldn't want to go off-roading in that!!

It'll be built to make use of the disco chassis, the body rots the chassis usually survives and then this is a fun use for the chassis if you have time and money

Makes no difference as long as the engine number on V5 is right and you tell insurance its got a 3.5 instead of the original 2.5 diesel

Open is more fun ;)

I have 35/12.5/15 which are 318/45/15 I think so somewhere in between

Should be on the V5 as a disco with different body so best check that he hasn't used a defender VIN, nothing wrong with mash ups either mines a 7L Cadillac V8, GM gearbox, sliced up landrover and pointless tyres

Ultimately driving a V8 would hurt the pocket.

But its fun and sounds great!

Either run out of time, money, enthusiasm or all three......or its a ****ter

.

cage is part of the body, it comes like that from blitz

wouldn't trust it in a roll over

All ace answers guys. I will be having a real think about this thing and a good inspection of it. I am used to a modded Hilux you can off-road in, not a tarts handbag you can't ;)

I'll give it a good look over and bear in mind all you'v said. I suspect there are one or two points which will stop me on this one!

if it's the disco chassis and reg'd as the fender.. then wouldn't it need a iva and a q plate?

personally, i would walk away.

Looking at the way the wheels protrude from the body I'm wondering if these were the actual wheels used for the mot?

This is a kit made by NCF motors as Dr Evil states..

I have in the past owned the small NCF blitz mini based buggy and can certainly vouch for the strength of the roll cage...

This kit is called the Sahara, and it takes the classic Blitz lines and turns it into a Defender look alike...the Chassis, dashboard and full running gear stays Discovery though i believe

cheers
