hi all just put a new head all top end gaskets on my car .started up strait a way but naw it is runing lumpy on tick over and still geting white smoke out of exhaust and it smells like oil as eny one got eny ider what the problem is

hi there Head torqued down correctly of work shop manuel
Stills sounds like a HG but it could be an injector problem. When you say it smells like oil, do you mean diesel?

Was the head gasket OEM or a cheapo like sitpart for example?

hi the head gasket was origenal bmw one befor i changed the head gasket the car was overheating and there was oil coming out of the exhaust .when i took the head of number 6 piston was wet with oil i thort the valv stem oilseal had gone

Sounds like a timing issue if not a compression issue.. Had similar on a 300tdi before with white smoke. White smoke means you are not burning the fuel at the right time.

thats what i thort but fully recond the head with all new seals and gaskets be for i put it back on and it is still smoking like mad this car is a real headak

hi will have to check all the injectors and the timing on the pump. will have to look on how to do that on rave cd hop i can solve the problem cos the car is lovely to drive

You cannot do pump timing without special tools.

The white smoke could be residual oil left in the exhaust being burnt off.

As for running lumpy, bearing in mind the engine has hydraulic tappets did you collapse the followers (if your using the original ones) before rebuilding the engine and has the engine run long enough to re-adjust them?

If he didn't he has several valves attached to pistons.

i there look at the injectors today and all look ok so it must be the timing so gowing to look for a for a diesel speshelist in my area and get a price on dowing the timing for me

i all looked at the car today found one of the connectors wasnt connected rite on the inlet manifold so check all the other ones. now the car ticks over perfect but still geting blue smoke out of exhuast i think the injector timing might be out
