standard v8 lt77. it was new not long ago but i dont expect it to last very long when the engine goes back in. it ate the old one fairly quick!
eventually i plan to use a bmw box with either a landrover transfer box on the back or a milner remote box.
auto would be easy as bmw used the same zf box in their m30 engined cars which have the same block as the early m5 engines. so change the bellhousing and fit straight in! But i hate autos so made a conversion plate for the manual.
It shifts!

Bet it does, reckon the bmw gearbox and atlas transfer box would be good!

yeah just seen the price of those transfer boxes! unless second hand i got nooooooooo chance!!
my best bet is make up an adapter shaft th connect to an lt230 or borg warner.
i want to keep it low so a 1.4 or a 1.6 would be best.
 
Yep not the cheapest of things.
I'd be interested in how the lt230 survives.
Maybe an oil cooler and pumped system to spray oil on cross drilled input gear would help,depends where it fails
 
well had it running through a standard 1.4 for 6 months and its still good. it hasnt got masses of torque which is what seems to kill landrover transmission normally. we'll see what happens when its back in, which at this rate will be sooner than i thought!
 
well i emailed Crane and they confirmed it to be a mechanical cam so either modify my lifters to make them solid and make some adjustable pushrods perhaps. wonder if could thread a pushrod or are they hardened. i was told that adjustable rockers form some old volvo will work but not sure which model. this is getting to be more hastle than its worth especially with not a lot of money at the moment!

you want hollow as they don't snap so often, out of interest where is the torque band on cam 1500 rpm upwards or more. If it's too radical it will be better suited to a sports car than a land rover.
Bits wise I'd guess £250 to complete it.

I've been thinking of building a v8 lump,but I wouldn't want it too outrageous as I would still want low down torque

well just spoke to crane again and they said it will run ok with hydraulic lifters and theres no reason why it shouldnt run as normal, so i am going to investigate further ie take cover back off and check cam timing etc!!
It should run so i'll make it run with what i've got!

As a thought, the company that supplied the cam-did they recommend it to you or did the kit tell you it needed solid lifters or did they assume you'd know?

If they didn't have it printed anywhere or in instructions-tell them they have not supplied a suitable part.


Be like supplying injectors as an upgrade and then saying you need a new ecu
 
unfortunately it was a seller on ebay selling new old stock items. no mention of what type of lifters but did check google and found a couple of companies selling them as hydraulic cams so thought no more of it and bought it. no mention in the instructions or on the spec sheet that came with it!
Just one of those things i suppose.
I'll see if i can get it to run properly if not will change it.
