Does anyone here own a Nissan Patrol? Do you know anyone who does?

They seem rather rare and getting information on them is hard. I was
debating writing an owner's group web site, but if it turns out there are
only a couple of us, it may not be worth the effort.

Let me know all and everything anyone can about Patrol owners. Also if I do
write this site, can everyone point me to some sites of use for all 4X4
owners. Are there any annual events I could add to a "Show Calendar".

Your help would be much appreciated.

I was watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer last night and realised she must own
a one as she said she was off on Patrol looking for vampires. :)

Thanks
Gaz

You can try groups.yahoo.com. They have a couple of groups on there related
to Patrols. You need to register and they are mostly Autralian, but there
are some knowledgable people on there.

I have one and despite what the dealers try to tell you, they are quite easy
to work on. Some things you will need to make special tools for.

Cheers

I have a Patrol Safari - only seen one other in the UK. The only place where
I have found any decent info was in Yahoo groups. Seem very popular in the
aussie bush. I bought a Gregory's workshop manual from an Australian
bookshop recommended by someone on Yahoo.

BTW does anyone know of a breakers scraping an early patrol as I only have
lap belts in the back and also would like to locate some auxiliary seats to
mount in the boot. (Drivers seat could do with replacing too)

There is a Safari for sale just up the road from me in Penryn Cornwall. He
wants 7,395 the last time I passed for a 1995. Too much.

I would like to start a web site where other owners could add their bits and
have links to their sites too. I used to own a Nissan Pulsar and that group
went from a front page to a huge site with it's own forum and sponsors. I
know there aren't that many owners in the UK, but it would be nice to have a
reason to get together, even if it was only "virtually".

Where do you live?

Gaz

Well Gaz, I own a 1992 SWB Nissan Patrol 2.8 TD. I have owned it for 5
years, with 65K miiles on purchase and currently 139K miles on clock. Engine
and running gear still in very good order, uses no water or oil, and no oil
leaks. Hydraulic tappets are a bit noisy on start up, and 5th gear has
developed a slight whine, otherwsise all OK. I use the Nissan mainly for
towing yachts up and down, and also for running to and from work daily.
Largest failure has been the clutch, which gave up at 75K, and recently some
**** poked a stick through the radiator (cost 150 cash from Nissan dealer
for a new one - very kind to me that day).

Major problem has been getting hold of spare parts. Generally, the Nissan
main dealer comes up with the goods (at a price), but certain parts are very
rare - example drag link - one piece non replacable drag link ball joints
(which is now not available) - had to resort to s/h part.

The Nissan has been extremely reliable, however I have not used it off road,
and mainly on country lanes, with little motorway use. MPG averages
around 23, but have managed 30 on long distances. I am currently considering
a newer Nissan, but spares are definitely a put off. Even Nissan have
problems with their spare parts, as many of the 1990's models came from
Spain, and the UK software for spare parts becomes bemused by European spare
parts e.g. UK Nissan parts numbers do not contrast with NISCAT the eurpoean
parts software. It is therefore highly important to see the parts you need
on a screen before purchase, as invariably you will end up with incorrect
parts if ordered over the phone. I generally digi photo parts I need and
discuss in detail at Nissan dealer before ordering - gets up their nose, but
pays if pushed for a part.

Tom

Thanks for that Tom. One thing I did want to write was a part number
database with was linked to an fiche style image. That way when someone
buys a part from Nissan, the number could be added to the database and
slowly we could build up a fairly complete list of parts.

I asked a local Nissan agent, who has just closed down, for a copy of their
pages, but I got a big NO. Which was sad, as I could have scanned and
posted up the pages on the Internet for other owners. I did this with
Beetle parts some years ago and it means if you need a part you can print
off the page, which matches the one they get on their screen and point to
the bit you need, that way they get the correct part and you don't stand
there bend over their counter trying to see the screen for 10 minutes.

Would you be able to contribute to a web site in any way?

Thanks
Gaz

Nissan Terrano owners are in much the same position, how about including us
in your site?

Kev

Gaz,

A while ago, I dropped on a Russian Website offering the NISCAT (Nissan
Parts) for a meagre sum of roubles. Coincidentially, the first picture it
showed on the website was actually my Nissan Patrol model, with correct
parts numbers, the exact same software that I have seen used in my local
Nissan Dealer. I followed up the links and finshed up with an email from
some Scandinavian guy asking for several euros in exchange for the CD,
posted to home.

Obviously, being wary of funding some scan, I did not follow this up any
further at the time. However, I am thinking of risking the few 'euros' just
to test the waters, so to speak. Has anyone else discovered this link??

Regarding contrinubution to a web site. All the repairs that I have carried
out on my Nissan Patrol, I have taken digital photos of the work in hand
(Example stripping down and cleaning the automatic 4x4 front wheel hubs -
(which are a bit like stripping down and rebuilding a wristwatch). The
photos are kept as a sort of 'Tommy' maintenance manual. I have down the
same with front suspension parts, exhaust, radiator, rear brakes, handbrake,
engine heater plugs / relays etc, and placed the actual Nissan parts numbers
in the photo filename. Again, these could be useful, if each Nissan owner
did similar and a database was built up. At very least, a good shot at the
correct part numbers might help out some poor soul, or alternatively, some
guidance on stripping down / rebuilding bots and bobs.

A digital camera can be very useful aid in assisting rebuilds of almost
anything, as stripping something down is fairly easy - but don't you almost
always forget how you did it??

Regards,

Tom

Hi we would be interested in a web site we put our spares on ebay a couple
of weeks ago and got a huge response. There is some parts on ebay at the
moment a gear box and some thing else I cant remember. Every so often bits
come up on there.

Hi Phil,

I run a swb 2.8tdi manual (1992) just for a matter of interest what
does yours do mpg?

Phil,

Still around, still got my 1992 SWB 2.8 TD Patrol, and likewise, still
working more or less 7 a week. Spent a few bob on the Patrol (mainly
servicing) to keep tip top and she's still running great. Done 138K miles
since purchase at 65K miles. Gear box getting noisy, and have picked up a
spare, but not had time to fit as yet. Biggest problem I have had, is
getting hold of long steering drag link -Nissan have stopped making them,
and s/hand with decent ball joints (non replaceable) are like hens teeth.

MPG is around 25/28, towing my the yacht brings her down to around 20.

Where is this Langdale Quest? could do with a run out sometime - possibly
meet up?

Regards,

Tom

I have a nissan patrol 2.8 petrol on a C plate . It is a brilliant feeling to drive one , like the old toyota landcruiser that I took to Portugal and back. However I cannot afford to run it now and am trying to sell it but the only people who are interested dont want to pay for it. I dont want to scrap it because it is worth a fortune in spare parts alone . Is anyone interested in a cheap 4x4 to do up or break for spares ,let me know.

A Nissan owners club would be a good idear.

Trying to find Panels and Sills for my 1985 LWB Patrol is hard. I could go to nissan but I get this stinging sensation everytime i speak to nissan.

is there anybody who does after market sills and the like?

Can anybody help.

I will keep trying any finds and I will report back.
I cannot be the only one with this problem as experience shows that the engines are great the body suffers.

hi its about time some owners are trying to get something for patrol owners,i have tried for 2 years to get a club going ,i have several interested, quite a few names on my list, including Tom,but i cannot set one up and run it myself i work 6/7 days in from march/november,running a caravan site in SKEGNESS,but i am more than willing to help,CALL IT A PASSION for patrols, ive had them from 1983,all models ,all engines, import safaries 10 seats,5/8/9/evev a rare 12 seater, yes 2 sideways with 3 seat belts on each,i go none damagine offroading at langdale quest at least 5 times a year,WHY not come along,i have collected quite a few addressess, secondhand breakers etc,new parts, would be pleased to assist or meet and have a talk, every now and then i think what the hell,a i loose interest,AFTER ALL PATROLS ARE THE BEST 4X4 ,SO LET SOME MORE OWNERS HAVE SOME PRIDE IN THIER PATROLS, (WHY OWN ONE)cheers(MUDBRUTE) PHIL

Hi,

I have a patrol 2.8 TD 6 GR Touring 1998. I have also owned several other 4X4's over the years and I have to say that this is one of the most unburstable I have ever owned. Bullit proof. Tows like a train, and the exhuste note for the straight 6 is very nise.

An owners club would be very useful as there is a lack of information regarding them as yes they do appear to be quite rare.

You mean you can't watch Steve McQueen movies in it?
