:nopics::rulez::bored:

Tought titties :p thats it for pics!

Head gaskets should arrive tomorrow though so will take some of them and hopefully sort the engine out too.......

Guys not picking his phone up re:bellhousing  but will try again tomorrow anyway, either way Robbh is going to pay him a visit and collect it for me as that way he can post it instead of waiting for this useless seller :p

Ebay ad states there was a bellhousing and I did question him too to make sure GMC AMERICAN 4 SPEED RAT ROD GEARBOX FROM 305 SMALL BLOCK | eBay

His reason for it not being on there is it needs dismantling ? Now as far as I can tell that either means he put it onto an engine to mock fit and got it stuck or it has an adaptor on it that wont come off so Robb is bringing a set of brass drifts a proper hammer and a rubber hammer as well as pry bar to remove it for me

Either way its a **** poor excuse......

Also Zen and others re:flywheel

Nothing wrong with using a steel adaptor between a crank and flywheel....I spoke to a couple of other places including Langy's hotrod shop who build crazy power output machines. Steve the owner said there was nothing wrong with doing it

Strange thing to put in the description then isn't it  fcuking bollocks. I messaged asking if the bellhousing was included. He said flywheel wasn't and auction reads its in there too so got it in writing

Anyway Robbs off to get it next week, guy texted me back saying he'll be at the unit all week next week and no problem with him and his rather hench mate going down with pry bars and rubber mallets etc to remove it on my behalf

Just waiting for head gaskets to arrive now! Courier still hasn't turned up :(

Turns out its a V6 bellhousing so it wont even fit my engine.......I'm still having it as its been paid for so I'll sell that back on afterwards

Found a Corvette bellhousing from 1958 that'll fit the Muncie box but not the block. If its the right width and height for the block though so the dowels line up I'll make up an adaptor and then thats job done

Theres also one for a 1958 Hemi up for sale as well as the engine.....no use for the engine but box is going separately so I've asked if he'll check bellhousing and if it fits will sell alone. Waiting for a reply on that one.

Looks like engine will have to wait til tomorrow to go back together though

Never simple is it!

Nope! But at least its still progressing, need to check the PCD on the crank still as my mates been useless about it :p

But found a couple of flywheels that might just bolt up as the PCD could be common

always with projects like this you get delays, I waited for 12 weeks on the machine shop for new valve guides only to be told when I rang that they had nothing that would fit better, you think they would have called me like they promised ffs. 3rd set of heads now but at least they are done! All I have to do now is make sure p38 heads will work on a 1973 aussie 4.4 v8 with 89mm bores and low comp 3.5 pistons to give high comp in this engine and it should be fine- simples

Well as I cant do much else today I'm gonna head down to the shed and measure up for the exhaust manifolds

Delay on the head gaskets arriving wont stop me.....will strip the 2wd rear end of the box off later too

V6? was that a Buick ?

Not sure if its too small to fit round a big block 14" flywheel

Now I am not kicking you ok............ A 14'' will tough to fit on the caddy motor, the 13" is what fits those small block bell housings use. Don't get hung up on 14" fly wheel, or any other part. What you are trying to do has not been done from all that I have researched. If you went with a automatic all the stuff is there, and would be easy peasy. Got to be flexible with what you want to do, and what ends up working

Actually what you need is the BOP bell housings which are different than another GM/CHEVY bell housing pre 1975/77

I believe the LR use the BOP bolt pattern, not a 100% sure but worth a check

Bellhousing doesn't matter if I buy a lakewood 77-150 (£360 posted from Real Steel)
Adaptor then costs me a few quid to make up as dowels line up but bolt holes don't, big block flywheel with a new big block clutch is £160 posted from seller, 168 tooth count. Will fit the Muncie SM420 too......LT230 then bolts straight to this using a home made divorced adaptor and shaft extension (may just tig part of a shaft onto the 420 output using an old LT230 input as a jig

Refuse to use auto thats a no, it wont fit into my 88 and well I just hate auto boxes.

This will work and thats the final word on it, a flywheel adaptor will be turned on the lathe at my mates, this will then be bored to take a roller bearing spigot bush and yes I know this is new ground but no V8 like this deserves an auto box!
