understandable Doc. Just trying to help you. Dont want to see you falter. If it was out of a heavy duty truck the input and out put shafts are different size and there rear axle was a 2 speed giving the truck 8 forward and 2 reverse. with that 4 speed box.
Back in them days each division of GM...... Chevy, GMC, Buick/olds, Pontiac and Caddy had there own engines and trans and were not interchangeable. Was not until the 70's were engines and transmissions, axles and brakes became the same with in each division as shared parts. So you got to be careful about putting together different gm parts, all GM parts are not the same

Its a 10 spline input on it no idea on the output shaft but its a 2wd as he had it in a rat rod

He's checking the box number and gears tomorrow. If its 4 forward ones I'll take it if not I'll have to keep searching I suppose

didnt i say it was a 4 speed 4 pages back??

what about dem bores..and hense rings????

Some good news at last :D

Turns out I bought an SM420 box......same torque rating as the SM465 according to the specs I found, more than enough as the breaking point is 900ft/lbs on the input

But because its an SM420...........it has a 10 spline output shaft and input shaft too! The 10 splines turn out to be 1 1/8th GM SM420 | Tech Vault | Advance Adapters

So I ran out to the LT95 in the back yard, measured the input shaft on that and guess what! 1 1/8th.....came back in, went to the R380 and measured that up....1 1/8th output :D

Soooooo this means with a very basic adaptor plate I should be able to mate the LT230 straight up to it and use an LT95 clutch :D :D :D

Its still only a small block

I cant wait, hope the gaskets arrive mid week if so we can try and fire it up on the floor if we can make up the inlet manifold

feckin ell...why you not nelieve me when i says tnput shaft same as lt95??
tis gm standard input..
which means prehaps...one can fit gm manual flywheel..and CLUTCH..hense not need CRAP CRAP CRAP ceramic paddle ONLY for rally race cltch??

also be cheaper!

Well I've found a chevy small block flywheel but I'm not paying £110 for a rusty old thing, will see if it gets relisted if not buy one off a GM derv engine in scrap yard

do some reseach to see what fits..not all gm flywheels bolt up
then buy frpm usa with the clutch..so cheap even with inport duty and shipping.
