So, time has come to renew the insurance on 3 of my vehicles, all currently with A/F. Given some forum members experience i had no desire to be with A/F, no matter of the cost.

So...

My 2014 110 Utility XS - ideally i wanted to be with the NFU for this, i've never heard a bad word said against them and like their approach (local branches, real people, etc.) - already cheaper than A/F and I haven't even told A/F about my minor bump recently. So, NFU are getting the business there! (price might go down further since i've now told them about my tracker too! :) )

Now, for the Series and Spitfire, sadly the NFU weren't even close to being competitive on either of them, however, there is a lady called Lenna Marsh on the Just Defender and Series Facebook Group who works for Herritage Insurance - so I spoke to her, they couldn't offer me much in the way of insurance for the 110, but, have come back with great prices for the Series and the Spitfire - again, cheaper than A/F, more inclusive policy, lower excess, all modifcations declared, Green Lane and Off-Road cover included.

so, not 100% what i wanted ( I wanted a Fleet type policy, so, just one policy for all 3 vehicles) but - that was unlikely to ever work as the 110 is owned by my company and the other two by me, so, all in all, i'm happy with what i've been offered, just waiting for the details to come through so i can check the small print, but, hopefully by 2015 i will be A/F free :)

What are NFU like when it comes to heavily modded Landies...?
AF were the only ones who would touch mine 3 years ago.

Not 100% sure tbh, i'm only putting the 110 through them (they were a bit pricey on Bump) but, speaking to a real person who sits in an office 8 miles from my house and i can call in and speak to in person is always a good option. They seem to cover me for everything too.

Then again, Heritage ticked all the right boxes too, i'd defo recommend giving them a try - they're a family business based in brum. (They're even covering me for track days and hill climbs for both Bump and the Spitfire!)

May have a look at NFU for myself after reading this. But why do you always need to phone to get a quote?

Mines as heavily modified as they come and hasn't changed my policy :)
I had a classic policy with NFU for three years. I've just fitted a disco rear axle, and they say they can no longer cover me on a classic policy, jumping the price up from £93 to £615:eek:

So, I'm off shopping. Had a good quote from AF £166, but I have doubts about the company seeing how they have treated some on here.

After my renewal came through at a shade over 600 quid on a 68bhp berlingo with af

I renewed with winston wolfe for 228 quid. Admiral was cheaper but i wouldnt **** on them if they were on fire after how they treated me in a claim.

Spoke to heritage earlier in the week , all mods declared agreed value on a 5k limit policy was 213 quid on my 90. Only sticking point was they were not keen on the fact i fitted the engine my self at home .... Didnt care i built the whole car but because i fitted the engine it cause havok.

My Feckin garage is better equiped and qualified than many local garages.

Oh and i asked them to note that i have dash cams fitted to the cars for insurance/risk purposes only . They are not there to get a discount, sods law the day i crash they wont have worked so i dont want a reduction for that reason,

Im with NFU and wouldnt be with anyone else!

I second this, I have been with a host of insurers, I always end up coming back to NFU, they really are worth paying that tiny bit extra, especially if the worst happens and you actually need to make a claim.

The reason for phoning (or going to a local branch - I would certainly recommend this option) is that they like to give you as personal experience as they can.

I liked the attitude and service from my NFU branch, but after the massive price hike mentioned above, I settled with Annetts & Orchard. They seem to understand Landies well, and the price was OK at £166. I seem to recall that one of them is a member of LZ.

Go direct and insure with the company, brokers always need their slice of your money.

Needless to say I never use brokers. :D

I was with the NFU for 12 years then I got a renewal of £546 up from £208 (Fully comp business use included) - I rang them up and they said "It's because you do not garage it" - I replied I haven't garaged any vehicle in the last 47 years and I have yet to make a claim and still have a clean licence etc - Sorry they say - So I took my business elsewhere.

Just gone with Heritage (Leena Marsh of Facebook fame) for Mulberry due to the FREE Skytag offer they have. Saves me having to think about security stuff overly - it turns up, you fit it, they ping it, you pay them 80 quid a year, they monitor it. Job jobbed in my book.

Obvs it'll have other more basic security stuff like hidden cutoff switches etc but a tracky type thing for nowt, well, a few quid a month on subs is a no brainer.
