A late (post 2000) P38 diesel is a good bet, the V8 is prone to engine problems. If you go for an early L322, make sure the recalls have been done and that the gearbox is OK. The gearbox is notoriously weak. Door release mechanisms fail, steering column reach mechs fail, water gets into the rear nearside and screws the sat nav etc. Plenty of odd electronic failures. Much more expensive to fix than the P38, for example an airspring for the P38 around £60, for the L322 £380.
Plenty of info on here if you search.
Why would anybody leave OZ to go to the UK? that and the desire to purchase a Range rover suggests a slight loss of marbles!
