Hi,

I am about to buy a disco for off roading, green laning etc. I will confess that this is my first purchase and i am no mechanic.
I have found one for a decent price, all underneath seems in very good condition, everything working as it should, no leaks, generally well maintained.
My only concern is that when sitting in neutral the gear box makes a slight rattle noise. As soon as you dip the clutch or go in to gear the noise goes, gear change is as smooth as it is on anything and no noises when in gear.
Wandering if anybody can make some suggestions? Will it keep going? Is it a common fault?

TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY!

they all do that to a greater or lesser extent - it's the clutch release bearing

have a good look in the boot/load area - lift the carpets and make sure there are no holes

Appreciate your quick response Sean.
Have looked in the boot already and there are no holes. Apart from the gearbox it was very very tidy.
Is the gearbox something i should get looked at or just live with it?
