right well i'm loosing a little water, got mayo on the inside of the oil filler cap and when it's hot the water in the rad looks like one of those fancy coffees with froth on the top,(a cappawotsit or whatever they are called).
so what we recon then? head gasket!

I got the same problem..changed the HG and a few weeks later it's just the fookin same. cracked head me thinks.

Havin never done a head gasket on me own b4, i still found it quite straight forward, that is till i snapped a rocker shaft bolt.!!!

It were torking that snapped it, 90nm is pretty flippin tight. Yes lucky really as when I took the shaft off the bolt was sticking up enough to get some mole grips on and turned really easy, then I replaced all the shaft bolts but at something like a squid each.

Alls fine now though except that I have to do the tappets again now.

what size bolts you got??

1/2 ........... 65lbs/ft which is abart 88nm
5/16............18lbs/ft which is abart 20nm ish

Eh up Yella,

Nice of you to ask. She's running like a top dog but overruns slightly under load. I think she's sucking air from somewhere (maybe around the carb or vacum advance tube) anyway booked her in for a few bits (see EP90 thread) and will have her back at the end of next week. Still just over 10k miles this year with nothing drastic can't be bad.

Anyway back on thread: Take note of Slob's comments. Use a Torque wrench and make sure you undo and redo the bolts in the correct order. A snapped head bolt really will **** your day up.

right well i removed the head today and the gasket as far as i can tell was blown between two of the cylinders, and just to **** me off a bit more than i already am i noticed the exhaust manifold had a slight crack in it so i removed that from the head and it fell in half! oh joy!!!!!!!!!!!

1/2" so setting at 90 was ok according to James Tennants up the road, the thread was a bit ropey on one so it might of bin wise to change them anyway. No harm done just a bit more work thats all.

Thats ok to get and fit a new exost man e fold isnt a lot of money either, did mine at the same time aswell, samething happened.

all done and back together, needed 4 new exhaust valves as well as they were buggered. all in all cost me about 80 squid. oh and it runs like a dream:D

sheet boy you better not post that in the gaylander bit!!!

head gasket and valves fer less than a ton!!! theyll all be running back to the main stealer demanding to know why it cost them eight hundur brazillion million trillion quid and 43P just fer a HG.

anyway jolly good show old chap! keep up the good work.

Lucky yer manifold fell in half when it did.....mine went 2 hours from home last week....what!.....pardon!.....

Hi guy's just a couple of head tips (Sorry if this is common knowledge)

1. Allways clean out the threads, I use a old head bolt with a 1 inch deep slot cut in to it.
2. Use a couple more old head bolts with their heads removed and a screw slot cut in as head locaters.

Your welcome
I forget where i picked them up from but they do save a lot of agro when puting your head back on.
