Hi

Had our Freelander for a number of years now and it's been really reliable until this week.
Broke down on the way home and RAC came out and advised that it had a faulty alternator. Bought new alternator and new battery, fitted and started like a dream. Drove down the road, less than a mile and then all the dash lights came on, speedo and all other gauges failed and then it stalled. Managed to bump it and got it close to home. RAC came out again and tested the power from the battery to the alternator and said there was none. Could this be a faulty new alternator or something more?

Do you have a batt warning light on the dash?

No battery light - no lights at all! They used amp meter I think! Put one part on battery then other on alternator

well the main wire goes from the battery to the alternator so I do not know how

that would have achieved nothing.
try earthing the small wire at the alternator end and see of the batt light comes on.

which is why doing the test they did was worthless!

no idea - cant tell from your description. try checking the exciter circuit as already mentioned.

Ok thanks. Have no idea now! Being really thick! I could only see a little connector box going into alternator! S

thats no excuse. Why dont you speak to the peeps that fitted the alt and batt?
