On the way to work at 5am , My 300tdi(95) suddenly cut out  managed to freewheel it off the bypass.Tried to turn her over and it took 5 times before she kicked into life .

Managed to get to work at 10mph and the disco wouldn't go over 1500rpm ,just kept cutting out. Right I'm on break now and she is purring just fine :) it's back to normal ,Do you think there was muck/**** in the fuel ? Or is it something more and it'll catch me out at rush hour traffic on the way home :D

Cheers

Just took her for a quick drive and it's come back ,in neutral and foot to the floor it'll get up to 1500rpm then die back down.

sounds like fuel starvation,

There are loads of causes for this, but have a look at your fuel lines and make sure there are no splits, obviously if your at work theres not huge amounts you can do.

Could be :-

sedimenter (if you have one) is blocked
split fuel line
pin prick in the line letting air in
your out of fuel and your gauge is liar?

quick way to help identify things is to get a small pot of fuel and run the fuel line supplying the filter from this. This will tell you if the problem is before or after the fuel filter.

Yep I agree. Sounds like either air in the fuel line, or reduced fuel flow. It could be something up with the injector pump, but more likely to be something simple.

Sounds line your out of fuel.my mates 300tdi did 5he same the other week. Quater if tank he said he had.till we put 10 quids worth in n she fired straight up. Chuck some diesel in the old girl and start it up.try easy start aswell if u have some.

if that is the case, it could be either your gauge is kapput or perhaps a hole in the fuel pick up pipe in the tank above your current level of diesel.

Thanks for the replies,I'm on break now & its revving clean again? I'll chuck some fuel in her now and see how she goes. Cheers

id brim it to the top with fuel and that way you will know if your fuel gauge was lying to you ;)

I'll fill her up when (if) i get home , just took her for a quick spin & feels ok. Back to work now , No rest for us butchers. Cheers

Water in fuel? Been alot of rain recently. My local garage sells diluted diesel after heavy rain then refuse to compensate after you have to get tank drained and another refill. Barstewards.

Try fuel n air folter.
Put fuel in.
Bypass sedimeter with 8mm rubber pipe and 2 jubilee clips.

use the drain screw on bottom of filter to check for water in fuel, could be lift pump, you will have to loosen the fuel input pipe on the back of the injector pump to check this, move crank shaft round so that lobe on cam shaft is in the low position so that the lever on the lift pump will work.
