S,why do that, you will never learn to weld like that, have you got your own welder, how often will you use it.just get someone to do it for you.BB said he will do it for you.it is harder than you think welding correctly you know.

Everyone starts somewhere, half the trick is prep and setting up. If 110 gets a chance to have a few hours with a bit of help she'll know whether she has a feel for it or not.

door frame is 1.2mm folded sheet isn't it ?

May not be the best thing to start on given that she may blow holes through it, best practice on some scrap sheet before moving onto the door itself :p

BB,i know that, but is it REALLY worth it for S to learn to weld.i could understand if she was going to start welding her chassis up or something.but that is not the case is it.will she buy her own welding gear, keep on welding etc etc.ps sorry to be speaking about you instead of to you S.;)

I don't want to do upside down welding with hot stuff dripping down anywhere and Gemsdad I have no interest in learning truly other than to make the most of the opportunity of people being around that can talk me through stuff. If its not doable then its not a problem

i am not having a go 110,just cannot understand why you want to do it,then prob never do it again.you go for it then.

It's doable just not going to be a quick thing to learn/perfect! Be fine for your door after a few hours practice though I'd think

If it was chassis the best thing to do would be to get one of them to do it for you just down to welding taking a lot of practice, I'd class myself as half decent on the TIG now thanks to practice but absolutely **** compared to the tech at uni, he's been doing it for 30+ years now and the welds he produces are amazing on aluminium!

Know its a different animal and on MIG I'm fairly proficient but I started three years ago, took a good break and then doing it full time again now and it really is practice, practice, practice! Just like maths, physics etc

But go for it and post some pics :)

I've got about four/five smallish jobs to do on the beast that I need someone to check ive done it right, talk me through it step by step or use brute force when my puny muscles wont budge things. Id rather not take them to the garage to get done, I wont let members do them so this seems a good compromise and theres a few bods there so im not imposing on any one individual

ok,i can understand you wanting to do these things yourself,ie mechanical/electrical jobs.but welding is an entirely different matter.it costs money to mess about with a welding set.i know the money is not the issue either sam.but to me it will be better to let someone who knows what they are doing weld these bit up for you.yes you can watch or help but you will not learn to weld in a short space of time.:)

Well I can leave the welding and just do the other stuff if you don't think its doable. Gaffer tapes worked so far it can go on for a bit longer :D
