Does the TD6 have a engine driven HP pump?? i think it doesn't as it is a common rail engine! But I could be wrong!

Saint remember seeing the wheeler dealer bit with the plastic bottle and injector test but can't find it on YouTube must be because its so dangerous

Aslong as it is done safely, I cant see the issue...

But it will confirm if you have a dicky injector...

its only td4 with 6 cylinders, common rails have high pressure pump ,just not a distributor pump as earlier engines, which means they dont need timing to engine, td5 is different in that it has unit injectors and so no high pressure pump but injectors produce 1500 bar

Quote from manual -
High Pressure Fuel Pump
The high pressure fuel pump supplies fuel to the fuel rail and is fixed to a flange on the front LH side of the cylinder block. The pump is a 3 radial piston type controlled by the EDC engine management system and chain driven from the crankshaft at 0.75 times engine speed.
For more information on the EDC operation, refer to the Engine Management – Td6 section of this workbook.

I stand totally corrected...(hangs head in shame)

Thanks JM and Rewmer for the clarification.

I don't even have a clue why I have a dirty diesel PDF on my computer. I have no intention of ever owning one, but I guess it's usefully at times.

Surely these are all low pressure faults. ??

Just checked leads to glow plugs 2.26 volts does the glow plug timer relay only push 12 volt when engine really cold.

As I noted somewhere it said when cold the words pre- heating display on dash. Have only ever seen that once. Seen std glow coil symbol come in and off for about 1 second but only ever seen the words preheat once and that was when it was bitterly cold

Going out on a limb but on the BMW x5 diesel ( same engine and era) the pre heater (webasto fuel burning heater kicks in at 5c or below to speed up engine warming. I assume it wasn't that cold and looking at all those can faults I am saying you have an electrical issue. Bad earth, water ingress, battery, alternator or other.

The battery had gone flat as when the car stopped running the wife kept turning it over trying to restart it with her hazards on constant due to the dodgy place she had broken down. RAC Membership me thinks. .
