Scored a complete set v8 backplates/cylinders/shoes/drums off ebay last week for £30. They are big'uns - If they don't stop me 88 nothin will.

Will they fit straight on or are wider hubs/spacers needed?

ffs think about it!!!

yer drums are wider than the old uns.
the old uns are the same distance from the back plate as the front of the hub.
can yer see where this is going yet or do yer need pictchures

FFs
If you set them up right and stop dicking around with them the standard 10inch drums single cylinder (Twin acting) breaks are fine.
My completely standard 1964 2a (no servo) will lock all 4 wheels at any speed you like, ffs how much stopping power do you want.

List of things to check first before swapping bits.

1. Get all the air out (Get a ezblead kit)
2. The adjusters are set right
Get both wheels on a Axel off the ground and rotate the
wheel forward and do up the adjuster until the wheel stops, then
back off a 1/4 turn.
3. Make sure all the bits are correctly assembled (springs in the right places).
4. Make sure that there is no oil leaks on to the shoes.
5. Check that the flex pipes are not expanding.

I'm pretty sure they'll bolt straighth on, the parts book seems to confirm that.

The drums do not have a chamfer on them, so allow for the wider shoes.

I still think you're best changing the master cylinder as well.

Mind you, I agree with Clivees, properly set up standard brakes have always worked for me, you do need to stay on top of maintenance, especially adjustment.

I thought the point of having a s3 landy was to dick around with it every weekend?????

And maybe drive it off road through loads of ****e sometimes too....
