And don't forget that lifting slings, strops and Shackles which are stamped or marked with a SWL (not all off them are) havde a safety factor of approx 7:1 so a 1 ton strap has a breaking strain of about 7 tonnes.
This prevents the gear been used to the limits of it's real strength and reduces the likelyhood of it snapping after 6 or 7 uses.
Whereas towing straps aren't tested or marked. and should never be used for lifting. Right that's me H&S lecture for the day.
