whatever size they are they might benefit from a clear out with a tap. They get a bit congested with old thread locking compound. You can usually tell by feel within a turn or so whether a bolt is meant to go into a hole - if it's the wrong thread you meet much stronger resistance and it feels like you're trying to push metal out of the way!
Got mine off with a 14mm ring spanner but they had been replaced so werent that rusty ,if i ever have to do the other side i can see me having to cut them off as the heads look to be made of cornflakes !
