Dumb question but what size are the bolts that hold the swivel ball onto the front axel on a 1991 200tdi defender 90. H reg.

I've got a metric and imperial set but none fit that well. It's the orig ball so I wonder if they've just corroded.

whatever size they are they might benefit from a clear out with a tap. They get a bit congested with old thread locking compound. You can usually tell by feel within a turn or so whether a bolt is meant to go into a hole - if it's the wrong thread you meet much stronger resistance and it feels like you're trying to push metal out of the way!

The Prob is getting them off! None of my ring spammers fit properly and I'm starting to round them off.

Just wondering if there's a odd size that I'm missing.

Got mine off with a 14mm ring spanner but they had been replaced so werent that rusty ,if i ever have to do the other side i can see me having to cut them off as the heads look to be made of cornflakes !

They are usually covered is crud and crap, give them a good wire brush and the spanner a good wiggle to get it on. Should be 14mm.

Hi all, thanks for the help. A 14mm is too loose and starts to round it off, 13 won't fit tho maybe I'll try a good clean. I'll try a 3/8 BSF

the head " should" be 14mm (9/16 technically) as i've just changed 2 swivels today although age may make them smaller
