My 1990 2.5 diesel sounds like exhaust manifold is blowing, just changed manifold gaskets and it is still doing it. Any ideas?

it could also be an injector easy way to check squirt washing up liquid in the injector ports with injectors still in, you will soon see if it is or not,im not sure on how the exaust is fastend to the manifold but where the joint is between the 2 have engine ticking over and run your hand round the joint,another test you can do is wait for engine to go cold and start it up and look for exaust smoke and dont tell me it dont smoke on start up its britishand its made by rovers,

another thing i forgot to mention it could also be your head gasket,

thanks will give it a go- thought about the injector thing but noise seems to be coming from the other side of the engine. On first start there was black smoke that seemed to come from between no3 and no 4 rocker box covers but not sure. Is the head gasket all in one or four separate ones?

The exhaust manifold is also prone to cracking too which is a bit of a bugger.

Sorry for long time to reply, live on a boat so internet is sporadic.
since I wrote, the snow melted and the River Avon nr Bristol rose about 14ft over night. Range Rover was (and still is) in field adj. I was sent a pic showing the water at top of doors. So a few more minor irritations to sort out.....AGHHHH I will post pic when I figure how to get it from phone to lap top..
