Long story short - sender stopped working , fuel tank leaked when full ,gauge stopped working etc etc
new seal and retainer fitted - the retainer had failed letting the sender cock and jam. - at this point the fuel gauge worked through the whole range
No low fuel light - now it is a 3 wire sender. In playing about to get it working i shorted a fuse - now i have nothing.
I changed every fuse on the board for new ones straight from my box of new fuses (because i couldnt find a burst one)
No bueno .... what did i break this time - and what fuse should it be - i thought number 5 (200TDI Loom/fuse board on a 200tdi engine)
