Long story short - sender stopped working , fuel tank leaked when full ,gauge stopped working etc etc

new seal and retainer fitted - the retainer had failed letting the sender cock and jam. - at this point the fuel gauge worked through the whole range

No low fuel light - now it is a 3 wire sender. In playing about to get it working i shorted a fuse - now i have nothing.

I changed every fuse on the board for new ones straight from my box of new fuses (because i couldnt find a burst one)

No bueno .... what did i break this time  - and what fuse should it be - i thought number 5 (200TDI Loom/fuse board on a 200tdi engine)

Have you shorted the earth cable direct to earth with the chassis to make sure the gauge rises with ignition on? Mine was all over the place and turned out to be my sender but firstly I checked my earth worked correctly then messed about with the power cables. Unless ya blade fuse isn't making contact?

well the source of me not being able to short out the fuel gauge was a flat battery...would you believe.

with the dash out there was no indicators that it was flat.

wasnt till i went to start it to move it i found it was flat - id knocked the light switch on - with optima red top and led lights - the battery drained down to 3volts.

so i have a working gauge again.

low fuel light white with grey trace - where does this run dash side - does it go through the fuse board and up to the multiplugs or does it just go through the dash hole gromets behind dash. - i cant get continueity to it through any open plugs :(

cheers

Don't think it will go near a fuse, the sender is sending an earth to light the lamp. The fuse is on the other side of the gauge.

I think it runs from sender up through bulkhead hole and into the dash light where it earth's after the bulb. When I put the td5 dash in mine I wired it that way as the td5 dash is supposed to do the low fuel light but it turned my light on when full and it went off when it was supposed to come on lol

Find it where the plugs meet engine side first. I had the drivers floor pan out in mine and traced it that way as mine is tech screwed in for ease

Strange. I don't think it changes colour. I recall on mine following it up from drivers footwell with the rear loom after if comes out the front of the chassis. It's gotta be there somewhere

Yeah I have that side though. Its on its own little mini loom. Te white slate is on the same 2 port plug as te green black- the white slate is a female . The green black is a male. Green blacks home was found in the 10port plug in the engine bay and the fuel gauge works but this leaves a female empty plug. None of the corresponding plugs next to the green black is male and none of them have continuity to the low fuel light either. None of the engine bay empty plugs have continuity to the low fuel light it seems. So I wondered if it fell behind the dash

Was hoping someone knew the routing to save me stripping the loom down to chase it as it goes from the PCB connector to a multi plug then disappears into a bunched loom making it impossible to trace.

Any ideas ? (Short of cutting it at the PCB and Jimmy rigging it as I have a new unmodified complete 200tdi loom in there and id like to keep it that way as much as possible)

Run a cable from fuel sender up to dash instead of cutting? Did all 200tdi have low fuel warning in the looms?
