Inside my defender doors there was a sheet of polythene stuck to the frame. Presumably, to protect the door card. It was held in place by a bead of black rubbery adhesive. It was still pliable, tacky and very waterproof despite being 19 years old!

Does anyone know what it is called?

Cheers, Dragonwalker. It's not Sikaflex, I've used that before. I could peel the plastic off and stick it back on. Great stuff!

i know exactly what you're talking about. i bought a big roll of it from a local auto paint shop. bloody handy stuff to have on a defender because you can use it to deaden all manner of noises

The plastic liner is a water shedder which when sealed to the frame stops water getting in to the car and the sealer is Butyl tape.

Tremendous, looks like it came out of a tube/gun but it's probably just distorted over the years. Cheers, Owl.
