How do.
What’s all your thoughts on this: treated with Hydrate 80 and then painted. All per the instructions.

Seems like it’s just started to rust again and bleed through?
 
Seems that the converter didnt do it's job, the rust should have become very black... i didnt use Hydrate myself but I recommend Fertan, it's the best i used after i tried others like Vactan, Nigrin and Koroplex.
 
I have used Bilt Hamber with no problems, even works well with no top coat. I do remove as much rust as possible and clean well before hand.
I found Fertan to be useless on the Land Rover chassis, might aswell not have bothered.

If you removed the rust before using Fertan it's not a surprise to be useless... it needs a "decent" layer of rust to work well and better applied on wet surface, i'm a big fan of it, even if it has a milky colour my chassis looked like it was painted in black after i applied it

Sorry, I didn't mean remove all the rust but the worst of. I had read good reviews about it but didn't really work for me.
 
I’m on the fence about Fertan compared to other similar products. I’ve used it in various ways and rust has always came back through. I don’t think ANY of the touted “Rust Killers” work. The only way to get rid of rust on a vehicle is to cut it out.
 
I’ve cut some out, it’s the surface rust I want to treat. Going to wire wheel it back today and have another go. It’s just another disappointment; this project seems never ending.

I've had "some" success using grinding tools or rotary burrs on rust. I do use wire wheels, but they get to a point where they just kind of polish the deeper pitted rust and that's why it returns. I use carbon steel burrs or carbide on the pits of rust and watch for them going from producing dust, which is rust, to producing clean metal.
