New here, so I apologise in advance for any errors!
Have a Discovery 4 HSE on a 13 plate. We have a caravan, but now wanting to get electric bikes for me and the Mrs (my knees are no more, so I struggle to walk far). Any tips on what bike rack will fit to the back of the car? I know I can put the bikes on the back of the caravan, but if we go out and want to take the bikes with us for the day? A roof rack is no good as 1. I’m on the short side! And 2. Electric bikes are on the heavy side! Thanks in advance

Hi mate!
You've found the right place to ask this question!
Best of lcuk with it.
Welcome to the forum/asylum!:):):):):)

You might want to find the "introduce yourself " section and post a few bits there!;)

like you say, they can be very heavy, ~35kg each, maybe a bit less if the battery is removable.
you'll want something towbar mounted, not something that straps on. halfords etc will list 'ebike compatible' but you still need to check weights to make sure you wont overload it

Have looked on line and at Halfords? Struggling to find anything. The thing is, with towbar mounted, we’re already towing the van and I’m concerned the bikes might be too heavy to mount on caravan racks?

if you mean a bike rack on the car while towing the caravan then i think you're stuck. the strap on types wont be suitable for 60kg+
can you stow them inside the caravan? while keeping the nose weight aligned?

He said in post one, (I've only just reread it,) that he will be towing the caravan with them on the back of said van, so that isn't the issue. It is when he is going out for the day and wants them on the back of the Disco.
So I got the wrong end of the stick.

Not on rereading further down!!! :stars: :stars: :stars:

Knowing how most caravans are made, I wouldn't fancy hanging normal bikes on the back, let alone electric one's.
Plus the nose weight would be tricky.
You can get roof racks that drop down, but not sure about the extra weight.
If we take (normal) bikes, they go inside the caravan.
Our van is an Eriba touring, so smaller than the normal, white wobbly box.
