I would love to run wider tires, but they just dont suit my needs :( have to stick to my 255/85's (33x10.5ish)

My 10.5's are pretty wide .. well have been wide enough for what we do now, which is a bit of everything, but when we turn it into a mostly off-roader I want good tyres, no compromises as that's what we've been doing for years .. We have a few other plans for it as well. Like you say I like the look of wide tyres, I also like the feel of them, but it's also the extra diameter I want too.

I know there are a few copies of the tread pattern but, like the BFG AT's I already have, there's a lot to be said for the rubber used for the tyre, performance isn't just about what the tread looks like.

Having said that it's gonna still be a hard choice when we get to it between BFG again and a n other ... also thinking about Fedima and Recip Trials, with similar looking tread patterns!
 
Well I dont do P&P days (anymore). Only greenlanes in the UK, then I need it to cope with lots of tarmac and also have good availability abroad. I need a good MT tire that is reliable, puncture resistant, that wont stress components, is tall enough to help diff clearence but not excessively wide due to ruts, MPG, tracking etc

hence why i have BF MTs in a tall but narrow size :) looking at changing to KM2's shortly. I would go for 285's but then I would need to get rid of my wolfs :( which i dont want to do. So im stuck with 255/85s! but happy even if they dont look as tall as they are (due to them being narrow)

i would certainly say look into the baja claws, they have never disappointed, be it with me or people i have been with, they are exceptional!

i have a friend soon to buy recip trials, so ican let you know on those at some point

i am going to get some super swamper bogger tyres, they are the best of the best, if you want uncompromising looks and ability that is what you want
 
I don't think they would get you to France let alone Africa before they were bald and road handling forget it! but they are a superb OFFROAD tyre hence why they are banned from comps and the like due to the damage they cause biting through mud ripping up the terrain and dragging whatever you vehicle through the ****e.
 
If I was doing any travelling BFG al terrain awsome grip for an all terrain in snow, mud, sand, soft sand tarmac and their longevity has always amazed me.

Tyres BFG all terrains have done snow ice sand lots and lots of tarmac and mud while driving around europe for a month or so. Bloody good tyres but not cheap! Surprisingly reassuring grip in snow, mud and road handling isn't too bad either in fact bloody excellent! I can't remember how many thousands of miles they have done to date but they are far from worn and have clocked up shead loads! I drove that same RR to Czech Republic a year or so after that video on mitchelin xcl's and they wernt too bad considering they are cheap mud based tyres.

i been running recip trials for a while, very please with them in most conditions especially good in ruts and mud. i wil however be changing them for special tracks when they wear out.
i have found the recips trials are terrible on side slopes, but other than that they are a good budget tyre
 
iv got fedima 35x10.50 r16's on mine.thi gud on n off road.but thiv only got a 66mph speed ratin.

i didnt know fedima were still being sold? Simonites wouldnt reply only place i found do was france at silly money near 230 euro each
