Well, didn’t achieve much today.

Long story.....you might want to get a cup of tea....

Plan was.....

to weld another patch in n/s wheelarch coz I wasn’t happy with the amount of spot weld holes that wuz there.
Also, weld a patch in the tank fixing mount.....thought about how I would tackle the mount and decided just to cut middle out and re-patch.
Clean up o/s chassis to just past round crossmember and Fertan ready for first coat red tomorrow.

Well, that was the plan.

Got 3 tack welds in wheelarch and run out of wire. ☹️
Using .8 but no worries got .6 which will do the job.
Was using machine mart .8 small reel with a little attaching hole.
My .6 reel is a bigger one that needs an adapter to fit before fitting in machine.
Looked everywhere !!!

Thought fk it and went off to my local welding supplier in Newport to see if they had small reels of wire and/or the reel adapter.

They didn’t have any.

So thought I’ll go to machine mart in Cardiff to get a reel of .8

Got back at about 4ish.

Great, fitted wire, adjusted tension,
Got under the wheelarch, first weld good. Tried again and weld was complete sh**e. - ....... run out of gas !!!!

So I thought, keep calm and clean up o/s chassis.
Using my trusted chassis tester, I found another ‘kin hole !!!

Managed to cut it out before the light got too bad.

Ah well there’s always tomorrow.

Might need a bit more work on that hole

What a palaver :(

It happens though, I'm on 0.8mm wire currently on the small reel as I wanted to be able to fire in a good bit of heat into the box section and the body mounts, plus rebuilding the door post bottoms in 2mm I wanted good heat and penetration there too. I do have an 11lb roll of 0.6mm wire in the stores but I'm quite enjoying the way this wire is welding and think I'll get a few more rolls to go in my stores.

Shame about that extra hole in the chassis but better you found it now than later on when you were almost done ;)

Could have been worse .... it might rain tomorrow ...

All weldid up. First coat of red.

Welded brace on o/s wheel arch to pillar to stop it moving as the n/s one had moved a bit and door lock needs adjusting a tad.

Look you got an a bracket to still do on that rear cross member then? It will be rotten underneath that too

It's coming together now isn't it!

Yup, slowly though. :(

At the mo. I’m just concentrating on the centre area so I can get A frame back in once I’ve painted sides of chassis. Then get the n/s side bit of floor in and welded.

I know I’ve got the ‘Pyramid’ to do on the end of round crossmember, and haven’t been up the o/s chassis rail with my pointy hammer yet!!!

And sills, and alpine window, and and and ......... lol

It's so similar to mine. I did an alpine window the other week and just covered in primer as bare but will sand right back. I've got a huge chunk on os chassis to finish. I have to get those a frame bars off that you did soon too. **** know how. I know I'll have the right socket for but they're so tight.

Are both your alpine window surrounds shot and have you checked the box beam bit underneath? Mine's rotten on both sides leading to the boot.
