Hi,
Set off to go mountain biking this morning and problems with Landy - hard to describe - very occasional jerking, like something locking up - some sounds like grating metal. Whirring sound which gets louder with increased speed. No difference in different gears. Still got the whirring in neutral freewheeling downhill but not when idling. It got me home where smell of burning oil apparent. Sounds like something major - anyone any ideas?

Sounds like a diff going but could be a wheel bearing or even handbreak breaking up. Time to get some wheels off the ground and start spinning and wobbling....

check props , run through the gears whilst reving it in each with t/box in neutral ,check condition of oil in axles ,and boxes jack each wheel up feel for play and rotational

only because I took it to the garage... well, it locked up completely on the lane on the way to the garage so they had to come and get it - mechanic took prop shaft off in order to move it. I directed the local traffic around the obstruction. I don't want to think about the bill.

Over tea, my twelve year-old daughter said earnestly "Dad, why don't you just buy a new one?"
