Just been caught out by a scam which has grown big time over here. Some petrol stations cutting there fuel with Kerosene/ ethanol. Had an old nissan almera with 40thou on the clock and running like a sowing machine. week after filling up, noticed running lumpy, smell of ****y petrol in car. Oil light started to flicker then refusing to start. eventually got started but with plumes of black smelly smoke. Pressure test revealed less than half normal reading in on pot and down on another two. New engine time:mad:. gonna take head off next week to probably find melted rings or pistons.
Bit of research told me over twenty cars are in local indie dealers with same probs, some looking at over 7k for repairs.
Moral.... if it looks to good to be true, it probably is!
Customs have been informed.

Id say it would be in more places than here. Semi rural but even been mentioned on local radio and national newspaper, headlined "petrol stretching" Id stick to large petrol stations if i where you. Its only petrol afaik.
 
I`ve heard a lot about this in Galway as well. They closed a petrol station down for illegally tampering with the fuel
 
There we are then! So difficult to resolve as well, i payed by cash as the lad came to the car to fill it up for me and i didn't bother going to the office for a receipt. Proving i got it there, was it already in the tank before i topped u,p and could i have got it anywhere else after, is all the obstacles that they will put in the way.
 
Mick, I should think a sample from your tank and from theirs will prove your fuel came from their place! They must be liable, mate. Get the cops involved.

My first thoughts to, another conspiracy theorist!

PLus if the op wasnt such a tight #### and ran a defender all would be okay, if he does in fact run one hes obviously still a tight #### and should run two:D

It seems your right on all points, I am a tight ####, living over here, you have to be. And in fact, i do run two defenders, just.;)

I was reading some article about new build houses over there being almost impossible to sell due to the house market slump?

Just heard today on local radio, 3, 3bed terraced houses about five years old built for tinkers but evicted and gone( probably with most of the interior) in a reasonable town close to airport up for auction. Start price E25000 .............for the Three.
We are lucky, sold up in uk ( thanks Maggie for RTB scheme) and built our house for cash so no mortgage. Lots of friends in neg eq and may take years to get out of it.
