I have made yet another mistake but after many months of thinking last week I picked up a 1971 Series 2a.

Here are some first pics, before I start making a first deep clean and strip.

Her name is Bertha.

Welcome :).

Looks well used;).
So what's the plan?

J
Thank You Marjon and happy to be here.
couldn't find if there's a thread where to make introductions :/

it was well used, bought from a potato farmer and while cleaning I found quite a few rotten potatoes here and there. so it lived all these years doing its job

My plan is to make a full refit to become something like this:

Looks better after the wash 👍.
Few battle scars (and PO repairs:vb-groan2:)
Looks like a dry climate so maybe rusty chassis is not an issue.

Putting your location in your profile helps, Hint:).

located in Cyprus and its definetely dry here so that helps. chassis seems in condition, when I will remove the body I will have a proper understanding

Here is the thread to follow up with the rebuild project :)

Disagree, just chip off all the old filler, give it a light sand and paint over the dents to keep its history rather than trying to get it perfect. They were not perfect form the factory as they were made by hammer swinging brummies!

My plan is to make a full refit to become something like this:
All you need to do to make it like that is give it a good service so it drives well. use sandglow paint when you paint over the dents (as above) and remove the truck cab. Do not be tempted by the overpriced, specialist company style restoration, they never looked like that even on the forecourt!

I agree with that.
If you want something restored to as new condition, you'd be better off finding the straightest, most un-mutilated, original vehicle you can afford.
Starting with a battered old workhorse will cost a lot more by the time you've finished.
I'd swap out that Frankenstein repaired wing for a good used one, and tidy up the rest

I think if you remove the filler that will tidy up ok with a coat of paint. My wings on the series are Frankenstein wings (although not to that extent) made from three different wings rivetted together.
