Regarding the fancy clips that Biglad asked about. I got a set from DPH when I got my hoses and they were £12. Nice, but I find that they need tightening up a bit every few weeks.

To be honest, I am thinking of changing the one that fits onto the turbo back to a jubilee, as there is not a great deal of turbo for the hose to push onto and I think that the wide clip might well be too wide for the job and not sealing so well. Hope that makes sense.

I'm going to mark mine with nail polish to see if they unwind, cheers for the reminder.

Not sure if putting a lock-nut on them will work as the female thread is sideways through a short length of round bar. I might try that, but I am still not convinced that the one on the turbo is sealing as it should - it just seems too wide for the amount of tube that is available for gripping onto.

I've got a worm drive clip on that end.

I replaced my turbo hose clip with the jubilee type clip today and it does seem a lot better as it clamps the hose behind the lip on the turbo outlet (as it should do) instead of straddling the lip, which is what the wide clip did.

So here's the AMC head...

Looks like the guy who fitted it used hylomar to seal the cam carrier to it, you can see where oil has seeped past at the join line. the rear cam seal also looks a bit weepy.

Very tempted to strip it down, it needs a cleanup before going in anyway.

So, should I get a very light skim done on the mating face?

yes.;) and pressure tested.

I agree with the pressure test, but would have it checked for flatness before stampeding towards the skimming machine.

Basically, I would say that if it needs skimming, it's not worth fitting.

My wife called to say that the battery light had come on and that the steering on her Freelander had got really heavy...

Don't think the fan belt is supposed to look like that!

Fitted a new one in her work car park, what a pain in the arse to do they are! So glad I didn't refit the sump guard when I did her oil change last.

Started to strip down the AMC head, I'm just giving it a good clean and resealing the cam carrier, not doing pressure test as I trust who it came from.

So, rocker shaft off:

It's a bit grimy from being sat in a garage for a while:

Cam carrier off:

You can see the clear setting sealant that was used to seal the carrier on:

Luckily none of it is in the carrier oil channels (which seem beefier on the AMC head):

Need to finish cleaning the bits of gasket from the deck of the head then it can go back together ready for fitting.
