The shells look ok, measure the crank journals after a clean but I would think they would be ok.

That piston damage (as has been said) is a foreign body getting in and bouncing around for a while. Not a valve.

Can we see pics of other pistons and bores.

Not sure if the “1” on your piston means 1 O/S, so the bores need measuring. Unless someone knows different.
I am used to seeing the same numbers as on your shells.
But your bores may be able to be saved with just a hone.

I have had no dealings with Turners but they do seem to be the go to people.

Photo of other two pistons that I have the 4th and the block are at an engineering shop being rebored , hopefully get it back this week

Just noticed on the sprocket end of the cam shaft there's a small flat area on the bearing surface, is this normal ?
Also invested new shafts on ebay for about £50 does anyone have any experience of them and are they any good ?
If they are OK at that price thinking it may be worth putting one in .
The old one looks to have no wear and bearing surfaces are better than the crank shaft

You're doing a crackin job so far

I don't think that flat on the end bearing surface on your camshaft should be there. My 300Tdi engine certainly doesn't have one. What was the shell surface like? The bearing floats in oil and so it will probably just be pushing oil around in the gap caused by the flat. No idea about camshafts off Ebay, but I would try to stick to the Land Rover one unless someone who knows for sure says that flat is a no no.

Not sure what the bearings were like after taking the block to the engineers I realised I had left them in , another part of the learning curve check and check again

The camshaft fits various models and the flat is normal , on the 200tdi it’s used to pump oil up to the rockers

I know cause I came across it on mine

but then i realised its machined in and not wear, I am told the series engine gets rocker oil supply from other end of head

Another question for you folks , timing chain and sprockets look OK to me and only a bit slight of wear on the pad the chain runs against . I'm assuming visual wear is gauged in the same way as cycle sprockets ? If so I recon all is OK to reuse

Have you checked them out on the Turners website? What engine is it 2.25 petrol? Mine's a 300Tdi and it has a belt, so I'm not familiar with the wear on a chain and gears. However, for the cost of them I would replace them. If you're going to the trouble of rebuilding the engine now would be the cost effective and time efficient time to do it. IMO

You are in this deep so for the cost fit new.

Hopefully can pick block and head up tomorrow or Friday should have been today but its not ready so just tided the engine bay up a little while access is easy it then ended up with axle and steering rods getting a lick of paint so will have to do the rear now lol

Got head and block back today so made a start rebuilding it , cleaned block then put new pistons on con rods the put crank shaft in but couldn't get rear seal to sit and realised I got the top half mixed up with the bottom , then torqued the bearings and felt to turn good but seemed to have a lot of end float and realised while messing with seal one of the end float bearings had fallen out so out came the middle bearing cap put end float bearing back then retighted it but the shaft was locked as I had put the bearing cap in wrong way

Coming on nicely, easy to get things wrong , make sure you read the manual and or turners guide and do step by step , I made notes as I went along of what was torqued up particularly head bolts , have you checked over oil pump

I realised last night that my timing kit had not been delivered so checked email to find its out of stock and a refund has been issued so I've been trying to get another with no luck all suppliers are out of stock, I can't even seem to buy all the bits separately.
Now wondering do I buy as many parts as available and mix new with used or reuse original? Any ideas welcome

Bugger , how the heck I did not notice this but the con rod bearings are +10 and I ordered + 20 so when I put them in the crank locked up .
Let's get back on line and reorder lol
