Hi KLF400, Just had a look in passenger side of engine bay bulk head, there is a black plastic box with a corrugated hose going into it a bit like the old gas mask hoses. The box has clips but there appears to be no room to view inside after disconnecting the clips. Can you enlighten please.

indeed this is the engine ecu , you dont need to mess with this the resync mate plugs in inside the car as i said in my last reply
just confirms your engine is definetly a thor engine which the resync box is suitable , make sure you ask for the petrol resync box and not the diesel one:)if you must look inside the cover its best if you remove the cruise control unit you will then be able to remove the cover , if you do dont go dragging the ecu out there is a cooling fan attached to the rear via a small multi plug

Hi klf400, have been in touch with Tawny 4x4 to buy this he does not want to sell me the Sync box until I an confirm its a Motortronic, he suggested I speak to main stealer who informed me it was Part Number NNN100660 that was fitted to my vehicle they dont know if that is GEMS or Motortronic. Is that definetly a Mototronic, a quick search only seems to identify it as a Bosch unit. I am in work so will try a little harder when I get home.

Hi Alpinapete, I'm a new member but after too many classics and p38's to count, and cheque stubs to match, I thought i would join this site and maybe help others! I also have a Holland & Holland, for my sins! They were all made in the year 2000 on W's or X's. Mine is an X and does have the Bosch Motronic digital engine management system as will yours. The sync mate will work for your car and does connect via the socket in the passenger footwell. I hope this helps!

HI Chourie and klf400 and all who have been kind enough to give some constructive advice.

I have now ordered via Tawpark 4x4 the resync mate device and was very impressed at their reluctance to supply without confirmation. When I receive the device I will just wait for the next 6 weeks to pass and if as Tawpark say it is generally an 8 week cycle which is certainly true with my 2 experiences. As back up I have also joined the AA, christ I need to get another job for all these unforseen extras.

Cheers all will try to give some help based on this to other people falling into the P38 Trap!!!!

The vehicle has been fine since my last logs on here, however since the purchase of a caravan the car has had to be parked in front of the van. This has caused the alarm to go off now and again, I usually get to the car after being woken up by it to unlock with the key fob and re-lock, last night I was so tired didn't get up at all. Came to start just now and it ain't having any of it even using the recync and getting a green light doesn't want to start. ER ANY CLUES?
