hi all
recently in the cold weather, my rr seems to turn over very slow, battery is 6 years old, so have bought a new 072, my question is:

with the ignition on aux(pos 1) and a code saver plugged into the cigarette lighter, would i then not lose all the codes and sync?
i need to have the old battery out for a while, so that i can clean up the area around the battery tray

I have had to disconnect my battery a few times recently on my DHSE, never had a problem, only had to put the radio code in after it had been off for 2 days.

unfortunately, i cant even risk losing the radio code, radio screen bright green, cant read anything on it, i know its only £95 to have it done, but the car must be getting near its last legs, ive had it nearly 9 years

Just use jump leads to a spare battery to provide power whilst your battery is removed. You can put them to the starter motor heavy lead and a good ground connection. Wrap some insulation material round the battery leads whilst you are working away to protect against "Shorts". Fit your new battery afterwards and remove the jump leads.

You could also use a battery charger instead of the Jump leads if needs be.

Result......No resetting of windows or radio required.

I have one of these power saver plug in things. You may be expecting too much from a 9V battery with all the things a P38 has electrically. I usually use a low output charger on the battery leads rather than jump leads for this purpose. Reason being I had a jump lead jump off one day, lost the codes and the back up alarm went off while my head was under the bonnet. Watch you dont trip over the power lead though.
