This morning was on my way to work!
Usual route takes me about 5 miles down the m1 !
Came off the roundabout gave it full boot down the sliproad, kickdown droped down a gear and BANG!! Sounded like something heavy got in the way of something also heavy but moving!! Power gone instantly, dash lights on, rev neddle droped like a brick
Fortunatly I was doing about 35-40mph so managed to get it onto the hard shoulder.
Dare not even try to restart (I know its serious)
Phoned my dad cos hes in rac and only lives a mile away.
He turns up tells me to go to work in his car and he will sit with mine (hes retired so probably the most interesting thing hes done in weeks)
Anyway hes just phoned! He had it towed to a mechanic family friend and the news is as expected, its major!
The crank timing has snaped and likely scrapped the engine!
Looking at around £800-900 to replace/rebuild! So in other words almost what the cars worth!
Wouldn't have minded Im trying to sell it too! Just my f~ing luck.

Read that last sentence and the same thought actually occurred to me.
Sorry about your motor mate.
I would sure like to know what could have caused the sort of failure though.

Timing chain snapped i would think.

It can't be the engine - according to many on here only V8s blow up!

Slight dig aside - bad news - hope you get it fixed cheaply.

Even an ultra reliable diesel will expire if not maintained. V8s blow up even when they ARE maintained. :D:D:D

Sorry to hear. I had a similar thing happen when driving the wife's Boxster so know your pain.

I'ts not turning out to be a good week for diesels agreed.

im ****ed off but I bet when your boxster blew you were crying.
ive seen those links tomcat cheers and im gona look into it, but with the other problems it has im not sure that its not the end of the road for her
What sort of money could I expect as she stands for spairs or repair? im looking for a younger model anyway and need to weigh up weather if I get her repaired could I make my money back or if im best just cutting and run!

I was when i got the bill for a new engine:eek:
I don't think you will get much as spares / repair. Maybe more breaking down & selling parts off but it can be long & tedious.
If your mechanic is quoting around 900 notes for a full rebuild that's not so bad - & you still get to play with your RR.

Yea I mentioned a while ago that its worth more as parts and her in doors made it very clear if I start striping it on the drive id end up sleeping in the f~ing thing lol

Yep, apparently the intermediate shaft failure on the Boxster is a common fault, no warning just the horrible sound of an engine eating itself:mad:
