Hi all could anyone help me. First of all when ever i slow down to about 10 mph theres vibrating from the front end/wheels which vibrates up through the dash(annoying) and also on full lock theres a knocking noise. Obviously this isnt good :( Any help would be great cheers.

Year of car would have been helpful. If it has a lever to change to low ratio it does not have a viscous coupling, if it don't it does. If you know what i mean.

Is there any possibility it could be down to the tyres (insa turbos). Has been lifted 2" front and 4" back could it be anything to do with this also

Yea it has has lever for hi/lo range thats it and year is 1991

Then it has a LT230 transfer box and no viscous coupling. Prop shafts are running at a sharper angle, that will wear them quicker. But still think CV joint is favourite if most noise is on lock. CV that knock on lock are the first sign they are worn. If the start doing it straight ahead change them ASAP. Check your U/Js.

Pretty sure '91 classics have the Borg Warner transfer box, you might want to check your viscous coupling. Easy way to tell which transfer box you have is look at Hi/Lo lever, if it only has Hi-N-Lo on it and can only move backward and forward it is BW box. There is no diff lock position on a Borg Warner transfer box which is what I think Wammers meant to say.

Alternatively, get under the Rangie, look around the back of the box there should be a small plate with the box serial number on it. That plate if BW will have red printing on it and confirm it is BW. HTH.

Yep that is correct. Soz for misinfo. If it has an H gate with high/low and across the gate high/low diff lock. It's a LT230. No viscous. If it just has high/Low it's a Warner. With viscous.

Rangie deffo only has hi/lo range. also just behind the steering arm/collum theres a large metal thing  looks like a dumb bell weight if you know what i mean. Any ideas on what this is or what its ment to do.

most probably cv joints but just check your tyres are not rubbing against your suspension arms on full lock, apologies in advance if i have stated the obvious!

I know passenger side touches slightly on radius arm but knocking is on drivers side, But this dumb bell looking thing is touching steering arm/collumn

jack up the axle and turn the wheels by hand and have a listen, rock each wheel forward and back this will show up the wear in each cv joint....whilst there check for play in the swivels and wheel bearings and uj s on the front prop ....good luck

Hi again your cv joints will usually clunk on full lock if worn badly and if you chock your wheels release your handbrake and rotate your propshafts by hand to check for play in the uj's at each end of the shaft.

I assume you mean the round thing near the end of the front axle on drivers side. Thats an harmonic damper (look it up!)
