just had the garage on the phone, engine is u/s due to thrust washer hovering around in the sump. not only has it scored the crank very badly but also the movement in the crank has worn all the big end shims.it is going to be cheaper to put another engine in at about600 quid. absolutely gutted. ;(

Big big ouch. I understand how you feel, really. Hey after 8 hours of driving my 90 home from where id jst bought it, the water pump went. I was 700miles form home. Previous owner didnt help and garage took a week to fix it. I lost a weeks work, then realised they'd botched the pump fitting, then the rad packed up. All this within a week of ownership. Total so far: 2100 euros! I feel like laughing and crying at the same time.

We will get there in the end :- broke, missus gone, life in tatters, but a Landy to be proud of.

Bloody hell yella m8, what were we saying only about a week ago, how well the disco was going with the 200k + on the clock. sorry to here that m8. the 600 quid you quoted, is this a quote from your mechanic or just a guess and does that include fitting. theres a 200tdi engine on ebay with about 2 days to go and thats up to 530 quid. hope you get it sorted out ok.

600 quid is just for the engine, its from a 94 disco write off but runs as sweet as a nut. he wants 200 to fit it, i could do it myself but he might as well do it seen as he's got my car anyway.

thanks for all your notices people its nice to have a little support when the samaritans are engaged :(

so 800 quid all in, must be worth that to get the ole girl back on the road, any idea on the milage on the replacement engine.

86000 dd miles on the speedo, mending man says he has no reason to doubt it, so i'm going with that, £800 sounds a lot but if i bin the disco and start again god knows what i am buying, so there we go, hey ho it can't get a lot worse eh(unless the mother in law moves in);)

stick with it m8, at least you know what youve got. youll be pushed to get a half decent one for under 2500-3000, their holding there price quite well.
when did you say the inlaws are moveing in :)

Ouch Yella, condolences.

Madfrog
missus gone

You think that's a reason to be unhappy??? :D :D

Know how you feel tho, I had an Espace a while back and in 3 months of ownership it needed a new wheel bearing, new steering rack (10 hours labour!), new radiator, two new batteries and a new alternator (hence the two new batteries!) None of which were cheap to fix! Oh yeah, and it left my family and I stranded on the M6 when the aux. belt stripped itself! I sold it after I got the alternator fixed as I was fed up with it - was probably reliable after that!

Matt
