Today i had quite a bad day seeing someone drive off in my very much loved for 5 years Defender 90 after selling it for which i had second thoughts only to have the disco 2 td5 turn up an hour later that i had bought and the owner kindly delivered for me (still wondering weather i had done the right thing by buying it) untill i sat in it how comfortable i thought turned the key wow how quiet ,went for a reasonable drive in it and then thought to myself WHY had i not got one of these sooner you could say im coverted :clap2:

look had my baby over three years. Air bags thro a wobbler sun roof leaks (when in good clothes and going out).Other than that it's been consumables i don't count the time my baby decided to drive across the path of a focus

i have had 4 disco's, thought after no2 that was it, but no! bought an ES Premium in August, 2004 '04' Land Rover Discovery 2.5Td5 Diesel ES Premium 7 seat Automatic | eBay had it a week, no good,garage refunded me fully, then 10 days later bought a 04 pursuit 99k 2 owners half the money, good car up to now, having to go through it service wise and do it all, then i know what it's like, but due to other commitment progressing slowly,

Had mine since feb.new fuel pump,then 3 amigos,new hubs.then i decided on preventative service.its great, going nowhere.oh and wife put petrol in no lasting damage.look after it and it will look after you.

My TD5 is brilliant, cost half as much as my first TD5 which was a lemon. Like any vehicle its the luck of the draw, whilst I would love a Defender my back is too knackered after driving boneshakers for years (series 1 then a series 3) I would never go back to something so uncomfortable. Maintenance wise the TD5 is just like any other Landy, look after it and it'll look after you. The key is to find one that has been well looked after with minimal rust worms. My current TD5 was bought on ebay, but of course I didnt hand over the dosh until I was satisfied it was a good'un.
I LOVE my D2. Bought her new in 2000 and can't imagine life without her. She's done more than 206000 very comfortable miles for me.
I have zero issues with mine except a few very minor oil leaks.
I think much of it is down to maintenance, if you do maintenance on a budget then these cars will bite. There are some parts that it is OK to buy the cheap versions of, there are other parts where you just got to suck it up.
I bought my 2004 real cheap as in sub £5k but I knew that there would be issues to sort because of that, but the chassis was sound and there was no evidence anywhere of water leaks into the car itself. It hadn't been serviced in 20,000 miles, didn't drive particularly well and I didn't expect it to, so far I have spent £3.5k and now have the car back to the standard it should be.
It depends on the cars condition when you bought it, low mileage doesn't necessarily mean low problems. There is a lot to go wrong they are complicated cars when fully spec'd with ACE etc etc. If you want a car with no issues you will die before finding it. I had a Landcruiser inbetween all my Landrovers and Range Rovers and it cost me on average £1700 per year in maintenance so although widely reported as reliable it comes down to the same thing - maintenance.
Mine is quiet, starts on the button, cruises well, is comfortable and returns 32 mpg which ain't bad at all. I have yet to be fully convinced / converted by the traction control based 4x4 but it hasn't let me down so far.
My only real dislike is the disconnect between driver and trailer caused by the air suspension and its associated control - I like to feel what a trailer is doing and the air suspension etc effectively removes a lot of that sensation (hard to explain if you have never towed much).
On the whole the car is growing on me it isn't quite a love affair yet I am still a Range rover man at heart but a P38 near bankrupted me financially and mentally.

Many thanks for the good feedback i was getting worried i had done the wronge thing i know mine has a few issues both front wheel bearings and dampers and in need of a very good service as it has not been touched for 25000 miles had a mate hook it up to his code reader today and only a few faults so i was happy there im hoping to have this weekend off to start a few jobs on it i will keep you posted to how it holds up compaired to my much loved defender bob
