Present yourself at an LR dealer with your log book and I.D. and they should give you your EKA code:)

Low battery volts can cause all sorts of problems as it affects all the ECU's:eek:

Dealer gave me the code. entered it as landrover instruction card and shes away i finished filling with oil and the sytoms are better i have drive in all gears but its still slipping in all gears high range and low forward and reverse ? Im just wondering if my atf level is correct because thats the only other thing i can think it could be! Anyone else got any ideas for these sytoms ? Thanks for the info so far its spot on cheers

Il give that a try ! But i dont understand why it slip in forward and reverse and when rev on drive it slams in gear and drives with no slipping at all but dont shift up or down just stuck in one gear! And gearbox fault appear breifly and then goes leaving no gear position on display ? I then stop turn of i start up again fault has gone and slipping has come back with display showing gear position ! Then i rev again and bang !!!! Into one gear fault display and no slipping at all but no gear change ? If it was clutches surely it would slip all the time and no slam into gear ????

When the electronickery senses a fault, it goes into 'limp home' mode, and leaves the gearbox permanently in 3rd gear. That is why you are getting the 'gearbox fault' message and why it won't change out of 3rd gear.

You say it 'slips' all the time in the other gears - does it still 'slip' when it's in limp mode stuck in 3rd?

No slipping at all in limp home mode plenty of pull just dont move out that gear !
What happen
1. start up everythings fine
2. Select reverse to back out drive way slipping starts o rev and move a snails pace
3. Select drive rev again and crawl along 3 mph so select low range and 3mph turns into 10mph and slowly gains speed
4. Then i pull over put into highrange to try again select drive and major slipping 3 mph max
5. So now i ****ed i have 2 mile tail back behind me so i rev hard and then bang it goes into gear with gearbox fault on breifly and drive with no slippage but not changinge out of that gear but i can get up to 60 mph
6 . Pull over turn off start up and these problems start over again

That is what it's meant to do in limp mode. It will reset once you turn the ignition off and back on again and the gearbox will attempt to work normally, until it registers another fault and it will go back into limp mode.

Does it change up through the gears when you finally do get it moving along (not in limp mode)? And if so, does it slip in every gear, or is it just in 1st / reverse moving off?

JamesMartin is the expert ref auto boxes...

It changes through the gears when it eventually gets moving but slips in every gear + reverse + low range . it doesnt slip in limphome i pull off ok it just stays in 3 rd but if i stop and select reverse it will all slip again? I think a autobox is more complex than most over machanics ! id rather diagnose engine problem any day ;)

Either it's short of oil, or you have an issue with ECU's/battery voltage, or the box is fecked.

Have no experience with 4hp22 but there should be valves and solenoids and it sounds like a pressure fault, has the box been run through the gears and engine running the oil level checked?
Failing that my next port of call would be the strainer/filter

First thing that happens when you start the engine is the torque convertor fills with oil. When you select D forward drive clutch, 4 on schematic, is engaged manually and clutch 11 on schematic is engaged electronically to place box in first gear. You should then have drive. If there are no faults being generated through diagnostics you have a mechanical problem. Get it on diagnostics first of all and see what's there. You should not be able to rev the engine to 5k with gearbox engaged and torque convertor full, all you are doing is knackering something up even more by doing so. Think the box is knackered.

Thanks for all the info . im going to check the pressure if thats ok il put in some lucas ! If no luck pull it out and strip it learn as i go :s....

To be honest think you may need something more than Lucas in it.

Hello again just one more thing i need someone to tell me in simple terms . My transmission slips in all gears forward and reverse to the point where it wont move in high range ! So why is it that it dont slip at all in limp home mode? . i have driven it today about 10 miles in limpmod. e and it doesnt slip at al ! So if it was clutches or tf surly it would slip in limp home ????

Put it on diagnostics and see what you have. None of us on here own a crystal ball.

Points to sticky solenoid valves IMO.
