Hi guys

Just had a service to include a autobox fluid change and filters gaskets etc etc.

On driving now the gear box is very abrupt when slowing down and appears to snatch a bit on as revs drop.

any ideas could it be the kickdown cable is wrongly ajusted?

Thanks

Andy

disco 2 hasnt got a kick down cable ,did you fit 2 x oring to filter ,check oil level correctly, what was old oil like ?

ensure vehicle is sat level hand brake on ,with engine running at all times ,run through the gears with foot on the brake till you feel each pull a little then put lever in neutral and undo front plug on sump 8mm allen key iirc about half way up sump oil should trickle out

................and if no oil trickles out - which I suspect - then top up until it does. Have at least 2 ltrs of Dexron III auto trans fluid available, just in case.

Hi all went back to garage and they topped up with 0.5 litres some improvement but it is now back to how it was.

Any suggestions?

Do you know if they checked the oil level with the engine running, this is vital !!! Don't take any bull on this - there is no work-around.

If they don't check it with the engine running, you can only get approx 2ltrs in, instead of approx 4.5ltrs. As the box works on hydraulic pressure a low oil level is a serious fault.

It is not at all unknown for garage mechanics to be unaware of the need to check the autobox oil level with the engine running and so get it wrong.
