Here's this evening's Nano log... It seems changing from 3 track to 2 track hasn't done anything really - I assume as its reading 3 tracks there's a 3 track pedal installed(?)

Still surging (but less) and less 'hopping'...getting there, I think. The throttle pedal overlay turned up so that will be going on either tomorrow or Saturday.

Not necessarily, the ecu has been told it's two track but the diagnostics haven't so just doing their job.

With the MAF still low though I doubt that the ecu will be inclined to give any more fuel.

How can it log 3 tracks if its actually only a 2 track pedal - possibly a schoolboy question!

Tried three MAF sensors now - the one that was originally in there, the one out of my Disco II and the new one.... Not sure what else to try now.

My money is still on a ****ty accelerator loom. Fancy putting a tenner on it? 😉
It can only really be a wiring problem, so nope!

I'm still open minded about where though. I don't see how the throttle wiring would affect the MAF. And the snag with that is that the MAF and throttle wires are in two different looms going to separate plugs on the ecu.

I've no td5 experience, but might this not be the oil in the loom problem? Is it oil in both red and black plug looms?

Nah, first thing I checked...oil free!

Not telling you how to suck eggs but there’s a few things you want to change on td5 as a matter of maintenance. Don’t do any of them with cheap parts either. I’d do the accelerator loom on any but others are:
Injector loom (and clean ecu/socket)
Injector copper washers
Fuel pressure regulator
Siemens vdo fuel pump.

May be anal but for the sake of a couple hundred quid to avoid absolute annoyance it’s well worth doing and you then know they’re done and when they were done.

The plug, not inside, on that note, the other chip should be here today (should), so I can open up the ECU and see then. But the plugs both looked clean as did the plug at the loom harness.
Just in case the previous owner didn't do it, check the bottom of the circuit board too.

Done injector loom, but will get onto the others - good plan cheers !

Erm.....how exactly do you get the new pedal overlay up into behind the dash?? I can see the existing loom from the pedal, but cannot see how to loosen the metal plate its fed behind. Other than that I am good to go!

There's a video on YT.

Fitted new pedal overlay, feels much better. But ...even better when MAF if disconnected (don't think I am imagining it!).

Put a meter on the MAF connector. Just over 12.47v when ignition on and engine off - 13.8v when engine running. Will put the Nano on later and post log

Hope you're enjoying your weekend, it pi$$ed down all night up here...next job, water ingress into foot well 🤣

Reconnect the maf before you do the nanocom thing. Let's see what it thinks.

Oh, and switch it back to 3 track.

Just got back - feels soooo much better, this is with the MAF connected (was the original one so far as I know it was a genuine LR one).

I also removed and cleaned up all the earth points this morning.

What is NOT happening now is, when I go over uneven road and my foot inevitably presses the throttle the response is much, much more subtle, making for a smoother drive.

Where’s my tenner 😂
